Warning: SPOILERS ahead for Found season 1 finale!
Summary
- Found actor Shanola Hampton says team dynamics will be impacted in season 2 after Gabi's secret is revealed, and forgiveness won't come easily.
- The relationships among the team will never be the same, and the new normal will need to be discovered.
- Sir, Gabi's former kidnapper, may return in a major way in season 2 and target other team besides Lacey as the story continues to evolve.
Sir (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) locked in her basement and uses him to help solve cases. In the season 1 finale, he escaped, prompting Gabi to tell her team the truth.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Hampton explained how the developments in the season finale will impact team dynamics in Found season 2. The actor praised the storytelling, saying it will be a process before anyone can forgive her for what she's done. Check out what Hampton had to say below:
I think NK [Nkechi Okoro Carroll] is a genius. Let me get that in there. When we were shooting that last scene, there was something written that I was saying, but it was always going to just be their reactions on-screen. And to see each individual process what she said and then leave Gabi that gutted is just so emptying. The room got emptied out; everything got emptied out.
So what I know NK does and does well is, and what I think makes her different from a lot of creators, is she never rushes to the healing. There’s never a rush to the fix. That’s why there’s so many cliffhangers in every single episode. And because NBC, in all their genius, has given us 22 episodes for season two to flesh out what that process looks like, my hope is that we, the audience, the characters, get to actually go through that process, because you don’t forgive your friend who lied to you on Monday on Thursday. We’re still going to be hashing it out.
The other part is the relationships can never be the same after that. There’s no going back to normal. It’s, what’s the new normal? And I’m excited that we get to discover that all together in season two, and my character will have to deal as you’re supposed to. You do wrong, you it you’re wrong, you deal with the consequences of your actions. But at the end of the day, all of these people love each other and there’s still this underlying non-judgment, even though you can’t help but judge, right? So what I’m most excited about is the process, not the end result.
How The Team Might Change In Found Season 2
Found season 1 ended with every team member except Dhan walking out on Gabi after she confesses she was using Sir to help them solve their cases. Meanwhile, the kidnapper's escape may have dire consequences for Lacey, as he's seen hiding in her closet during the final shot of the season. Given these new developments, Gabi's dark secret will have a ripple effect on the team now that it's out - literally and figuratively.
As Hampton states, Found season 2 will consist of 22 episodes, a much larger number compared to season 1's 13-episode count. This means the story could develop much further than the first batch of episodes while also offering the team a lengthy amount of time to process their leader's confession. There could also be some twists to the story moving forward, such as major characters deciding to leave because of what she did.
Given Sir's affection for Gabi, he will likely return in a major way throughout Found season 2. While he is currently targeting Lacey, he may set his sights on other team as he learns more about the dynamics for which she was using him. It's also possible she is able to temper any wrongdoing he might commit, perhaps being able to use him in an official capacity when he's finally captured.
Found season 2 will air on NBC at a later date.
