Raiders of the Lost Ark, National Treasure, and The Mummy (1999), the new film is all about the hunt for the mythical life-giving spring. The unique twist to this adventure is that it centers on the dynamic between two estranged siblings as they work together to find the fountain’s location.

As is the case with many of Ritchie’s films, the director has assembled an impressive cast for Fountain of Youth. John Krasinski and Natalie Portman lead as siblings Luke and Charlotte Perdue, but they’re ed by a group of actors, which includes Domhnall Gleeson and Eiza González. Outside of the Ritchie-verse, Gleeson followed in Portman’s footsteps in a sense, as he ed the Star Wars universe for the Sequel Trilogy, and he is set to be in The Office reboot, The Paper, putting him into a world Krasinski inhabited. Fountain of Youth is González’s third time working with Ritchie.

ScreenRant’s Ash Crossan interviewed Krasinski, Portman, Gleeson, and González in celebration of their work on Fountain of Youth. Gonzalez shared her experience working on a few of Guy Ritchie’s best movies, and the cast revealed which fictional treasure hunters they’d want to have on their team. Plus, Portman and Krasinski reflected on the franchises that helped get them where they are today.

Fountain of Youth looks to very much honor fan-favorite movie adventurers like Indiana Jones with its swashbuckling style and hidden treasures. In that spirit, cast were asked which fictional character they’d most like to hunt for treasure with. Krasinski responded immediately: “Indiana Jones. I just want to learn everything from him. Eiza González had a less expected, but wonderfully appropriate answer, “Aladdin”, which also happens to be the live-action Disney remake directed by Guy Ritchie. Gleeson’s answer was wholesome, as the actor said “I take John from this movie.” He went on to hype up Krasinski’s performance, saying “He’s amazing in it. Really good fun. It would all be fun–and he can kick ass, too.”

Eiza González Thrives Through Collaborating With Guy Ritchie

“He’s A Tough Director … But I Love that”

Fountain of Youth marks Eiza González’s third collaboration with Ritchie. The actor has previously worked with him on The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and the as-yet unreleased In the Grey, and shared that the experience was a challenge, though a welcome one. “My first experience with him was quite intense, and I learned so much in the process” she said, adding “It was tough. He's a tough director in the sense [that] he comes in with an idea. You have to achieve it, and you have a very small window of time to do it.”

“It feels like a treasure hunt itself, the performance.”

“But I love that,” González said. “I thrive on that. Maybe it's a post-traumatic experience, but I thrive in that environment. And we have a laugh and we have a good time, and people that come with optimism to set, he really appreciates. And that's something that everyone on this set did.”

“And you both gain from it,” Gleeson chimed in. “You're great in the movies, so he gets somebody great in his movies, and you get to be in great movies.”
