Ryan Reynolds confirms Disney officially wants to make Free Guy 2. Following the success of director Shawn Levy. Free Guy then managed to survive Disney's acquisition of 20th Century and stars Reynolds as a non-playable character named Guy who evolves into a free-willed participant of Free City.
The wait for Free Guy is certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after receiving rave reviews. It is also expected to outperform box office expectations in its opening weekend as audiences around the country gravitate towards the film. As a result of the interest in Free Guy, Disney has now seemingly set its sights on continuing the story forward.
Just a few days after Free Guy debuted in theaters, Ryan Reynolds took to Twitter to reveal that Disney confirmed to him today that they want to make a sequel. Reynolds' tweet mentions how he and the movie's team marketed the film as an original IP movie, which is seemingly becoming a rarity in Hollywood. The Free Guy star also highlights the irony of the movie getting a sequel. There are no official details on Free Guy 2, but those could come soon.

The confirmation that Disney wants a Free Guy sequel is hardly surprising. The film's extremely positive reviews and potential to do decent business in a pandemic-era box office are good signs for Disney, which loves franchises just as much as other studios. The irony here that Reynolds alludes to is that Free Guy specifically calls out the general obsession with sequels in media. That likely won't stop Reynolds from returning to star as Guy in Free Guy 2 though. He'll presumably get a very big payday to return and should be excited to make another if he and Levy come up with another idea.
It might take some time for all the details on Free Guy 2 to surface, but that won't stop audiences who enjoyed the first film from wondering about where Guy's story can go next. The main plot is wrapped up by the time the credits roll on Free Guy, but it doesn't entirely shut the door to this world. In many ways, Free Guy's ending sets up Free Guy 2 to be an entirely different type of film, which could give Reynolds and company room to creatively and unexpectantly continue Guy's story.
