There was always a belief that Chandler Bing's commitment issues in Chandler went on to marry Monica Geller, and the two became the parents of twins, forming a family he always wished for.
Chandler didn't have the most stable childhood, growing up as an only child to divorced parents. In fact, his mother and father announced their separation during Thanksgiving dinner when Chandler was just nine years old. It turned out that both Charles and Nora Bing had an affair with the pool boy before the former came out as gay to his family. Charles also relocated to Las Vegas to work as a drag queen known as Helena Handbasket, something that Chandler always struggled with.
While it was always assumed that Chandler struggled with commitment due to growing up in a broken home, that wasn't necessarily the case. While the estrangement clearly added to his struggles with emotional maturity and relationships, his past with Kip may have formed Chandler's true commitment issues. Kip was Chandler's roomate before the events of Friends. He was never seen, but his name was mentioned a few times. His fate, however, could have propelled Chandler's fears of committing, seeing as he was let down once again in life.
How Kip Affected Chandler & Joey's Relationship In Friends
According to Friends, Kip was Chandler's roommate before Joey Tribbiani moved in. While there was a line insinuating that Kip once dated Monica, another episode claimed that Kip ran off and got married. Chandler and Kip might have been extremely close in the same way that he and Joey became bonded. If that was the case, Chandler would have been heartbroken if Kip moved out. With fears of future abandonment, Chandler may have avoided commitment, especially when it came to women since he related the situation to the details surrounding Kip's departure.
The notion could also be an explainer into why Chandler and Joey became such quick pals. Once Chandler got to know Joey and his womanizing ways, he realized that the roommate wasn't a threat to leave. With Joey's reluctance to settle down, at least at the onset of Friends, Chandler became close to his new roommate while keeping his distance when it came to committing to romance. Of course, that all changed when he fell in love with Monica. By then he already learned to let his guard down since he realized loyal friends could fill in for his estranged family.
