Monica’s apartment, Central Perk, and Joey and Chandler’s apartment. Monica’s home served as the reunion point of the group and was witness to many fights, fun moments, and big news, with Central Perk also serving as one of their preferred meeting points, and Joey’s apartment was mostly a place for fun, though it also saw some heartbreaking moments.

Joey and Chandler’s apartment was smaller than Monica’s and also quite messy, the contrary of Monica’s always neat and tidy home. Still, it was the perfect place for Joey and Chandler as they had everything they needed and a bit more, such as when they became the owners of The Chick and The Duck. The apartment also served as their sanctuary, where they could watch Baywatch, drink beer, play foosball, and more, without having to worry about hosting other people or keeping the place impeccable. Just like with Monica’s apartment, Joey’s place served as a home to every member of the group at some point, and all under different circumstances that went from fires to losing games. Here’s when and why each Friends main character lived in Joey’s apartment.

Chandler Bing

The first Friends character to arrive at the apartment was Chandler, though that happened before the events of the series began. However, it’s known that Chandler wasn’t living there all by himself, and had Chandler with Eddie, a very strange man who they had to trick into believing Joey had been living there for days so he would finally leave. Chandler officially left the apartment when he and Monica decided they were ready to live together, so he moved across the hall to her apartment.

Joey Tribbiani

Once Kip left, Chandler began to interview potential roommates, with a fashion photographer named Eric being his top choice. Following Eric’s interview, Chandler met Joey, but his interview was rushed as he had already chosen Eric. However, the end of Friends.

Monica Geller

Monica had to leave her big and clean apartment after losing a game. One day, Ross prepared a quiz game to settle who knew more about who: Rachel and Monica about Chandler and Joey or vice versa. The game started off well for Monica and Rachel, but as stakes flew higher and higher, the always competitive Monica accepted a deal where if they won, the guys would have to get rid of The Chick and The Duck, but if they lost, the guys would take their apartment. Unfortunately for Monica and Rachel, they lost the game and had to swap apartments. Monica did her best to make the apartment as cozy as possible as she insisted on continuing being the hostess, but both hated living there, so they got their apartment back after kissing each other for one minute to convince the guys to switch.

Ross Geller

In Friends season 5, Ross moved out of his apartment as part of his many efforts to fix his relationship with Emily, but when their marriage was finally over, he lost the apartment he was living in, which was Emily’s cousin’s, as he didn’t sign a lease because he was “family”. With nowhere to go, Ross moved in with Chandler and Joey, but the guys found his habits to be too annoying and tried to force him out but ended up feeling bad about it. Ross eventually left when Ugly Naked Guy moved out of his apartment, and Ross got the apartment after having to strip down to bond with Ugly Naked Guy so he would choose him as the next resident.

Phoebe Buffay

Friends Lisa Kudrow as Phoebe

Phoebe lived at her place through most of Friends, but when her apartment was damaged by a fire, she and her then-roommate, Rachel, had to move somewhere else for a while. As Phoebe thought the fire was her fault, she moved in with Joey while Rachel stayed with Monica and Chandler. However, when the fire department determined that the source of the fire was Rachel’s hair iron, they switched places and Phoebe lived with Monica, but it wasn’t as fun as living with Joey. Luckily, her apartment was fixed and she moved back.

Rachel Green

Rachel ended up living in Joey’s apartment on three different occasions. First, as a result of the above-mentioned quiz game she lost alongside Monica, and later after the fire at Phoebe’s apartment. Rachel lived there until she found out she was pregnant with Ross’ baby, and so Joey, who at the time had a crush on her, suggested she lived with Ross so he could be present in raising the baby. Rachel returned months later after a heated argument with Ross, and so she and Emma lived with Joey until the end of Friends.
