Actress and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, played the curious and resilient Junior FBI Agent Amy Jessup on Fringe, but her character suddenly disappeared with no explanation after just two episodes. Agent Jessup was introduced in the show's season 2 premiere as the lead investigator of FBI Agent Olivia Dunham's baffling car crash on a street in Manhattan, New York. She temporarily ed the Fringe Division while Olivia recuperated in the hospital.

Agent Jessup was a tenacious character who wouldn't quit asking questions about the bizarre investigations the Fringe Division was pursuing. Upon discovering the truth, Jessup confessed that she had been waiting for cases revolving around extraordinary phenomemon. In the season 2 premiere "A New Day In The Old Town," and the next episode, "Night of Desirable Objects" Jessup had started to make connections between The Pattern and events in the Bible.

How the Agent Jessup Storyline Could've Changed Fringe

Fringe Agent Jessup

Markle's character didn't have the opportunity to share her findings with the Fringe Division because she never reappeared in the remainder of season 2 or the remainder of the five-season series. Fringe showrunner Jeff Pinker indicated at the time that they wanted to focus on their main characters. However, there was an intention was to bring the character back to continue her story. But since Markle had already accepted her series regular role on Suits, Jessup's return to Fringe was effectively ruled out. Had she not ed Suits and returned to Fringe instead, the biblical connection Jessup made could've completely changed the show's focus.

The people behind The Pattern who were geared up for a war with the alternate universe were anti-technological terrorists. With Jessup's discovery, they would have been labeled as religious zealots motivated by their skewed scriptural interpretations about the end of the world. The shift in tone would've then put the focus on religious beliefs and extremism instead of pure science mysteries. Obviously, an emphasis on biblical imagery would have stood in stark contrast to what the show ultimately delivered without Agent Jessup. Clearly, her character was poised to shake up the status quo in a huge way.

How Meghan Markle's Character Could Return For a Reboot

Agent Jessup In Fringe

Since Jessup's story was left unfinished, her journey could theoretically continue and perhaps get retold in a reboot or revival of Fringe. Plus, the Fringe parallel universe sets up the perfect reboot, considering that a new show could be simply be set in another world. Were this to happen, Markle's Agent Amy Jessup would be a welcome addition who takes Fringe into a direction of biblical proportions it previously didn't have a chance to explore. ittedly, though, with Markle having stepped back from acting, it's hard to imagine a scenario where Markle reprises her Agent Jessup role.
