From season 1 introduces a spine-tingling premise of an entire township finding itself suddenly trapped within the town's borders, with a monstrous presence lurking in the shadows. From season 2 continues that story with even greater stakes for its characters. From season 2 is now streaming on MGM+.
Among the characters in From season 2, Ellis (Corteon Moore) also continues to deal with his troubled relationship with his father Boyd (Harold Perrineau). As the season progresses, Ellis begins to open up more to other people and mend fences with his father, but there are still many twists and turns to come.
Screen Rant spoke to Corteon Moore about the making of From season 2 and how Ellis grows through his journey in it.
Corteon Moore Talks From Season 2
Screen Rant: What can you share about where Ellis's story is headed?
Corteon Moore: So, Ellis and Boyd are kind of at this new beginning of their relationship. Ellis is slowly learning how to better deal with the loss of his mother, and is trying not to blame his father, and he's really trying to focus on surviving and maintaining that hope that him and Fatima can live a long happy loving life together. And then, the bus comes in, so everybody's kind of dealing with that whole s--tshow, freaking out and just even more, it's just a tightrope act to keep yourself together.
Throughout the course of the season, he's trying to branch out, he's hanging out more with Kenny, more with Christie, he's really trying to make sure that Fatima doesn't go off into the deep end like we've seen so many people do, most notably Abby. He's also struggling with kind of being worried for his Dad. The hero, the leader of this town, is kind of not looking so good. And with Ellis still being a kid, it's pretty tough, so he's just trying to hold on and be a strong as he can.
What has been the biggest difference in the story this season, from your perspective?
Corteon Moore: For Ellis, a big thing I looked at it as is maturity. He's learning how to grow up a different way than most people his age really got the chance to. He's not just learning to go to college, hang out with his friends, take the love of his life out to regular dates, he's learning how to survive, because when these monsters come out, he could get his head ripped off. So, between season 1 and season 1, I think he was a really broken kid, really struggling to just get by day-to-day and just do the regular things on top of surviving.
But in season 2, I think he's found himself in a little bit more of a solid place, he's found his footing a bit, but with all the extra stuff that's going on all around him, it's still adding to that kind of chaos. But I think he's a little bit more secure, a little bit more confident, and he really is just trying to help other people rather than make sure that he himself is okay.
What would you say is your favorite element of Ellis's story in From season 2?
Corteon Moore: I have two. One of them is the fun one, which I got to have to more scenes with my best friend Ricky [He], who plays Kenny and plays him so wonderfully. Just hanging out with him on set is always such a blast! Then another one that strikes me as an actor is really exploring the unknown of where he's standing with his relationships with the rest of the people around him, where he's standing and trying to really cement this real relationship that he has with Fatima, where he stands with his relationship with his father that is constantly evolving, and trying to sus out these new people in the town and see what they're bringing and what they're all about. He's just kind of surrounded by a lot of newness, and what was really interesting for me as an actor was to just kind of jump into that head first.
In season 1, I had a lot of information, and thankfully, the writers and the creators of our show were really generous. But in season 2, it was all a mystery, so just kind of exploring that day-to-day was really fantastic.
What do you think will jump out to viewers the most with respect to Ellis's story?
Corteon Moore: I think the audience is going to be really scared for him. Not going to go too deep as to why, but they're going to be a little fearful. I think some of the audience are riding with him throughout most of the show, some of them are a little annoyed with him fighting with Boyd all the time, but this season, I think they're all going to get together and think 'Holy s--t! Is Ellis okay?', and I think that's really going to land.
