dead body in From's root cellar. Since then, Jade has continued to see the symbol, usually in mysterious visions, and learned from Victor (Scott McCord) that a former resident named Christopher (Thom Payne) saw the same symbol many years ago.

Jade's search for answers took an unexpected turn at the end of From season 2 when he sees the tree roots in the tunnels twisted into the shape of the symbol. Following this discovery, he has been increasingly convinced that the symbol is connected to other strange phenomena and unexplained mysteries, including the faraway trees, the bottles with the numbers inside of them, and the "Anghkooey" children. Now, the origins of the symbol have been explained due to Victor's real memory of Christopher being restored.

The Roots Of The Faraway Tree That Created The Symbol Were Grown Out Of The Children's Hope

The Boy In White Shared The Truth Long Ago

Victor realizes that it was the Boy in White (Vox Smith) and not the ventriloquist doll Jasper who told Christopher vital information. The Boy in White told Christopher that the children were born in the dark and later murdered in the dark by the ones they loved and trusted. However, someone who loved the children told them a story that instilled them with hope. When they laid on the stones, the children channeled their hope into the roots of the tree and created the symbol. Sara Myers (Avery Konrad) realizes that these are the roots of a faraway tree.

What Happened To Tom In From & Why His Ghost Appears To Jade

Victor's explanation aligns with Jade seeing the children on the stones chanting "Anghkooey" as they looked up at the roots at the end of season 2. They created the symbol by pouring their hope into the roots, and they are seemingly sustaining the roots of the faraway tree by continuing to put their hope into it. The Boy in White told Christopher he would have to go through the faraway tree to save the children, but it was Victor's mother, Miranda (Sarah Booth), who ended up going instead.

Jade Was Right About The Symbol, Tree & Children All Being Connected In From

He Is Already Seeing The Bigger Picture

Jade looks upset in From season 3, ep 1

Based on Victor's memory of what the Boy in White told Christopher, Jade was correct about there being an important connection between the symbol, the faraway tree, and the children. It seems as if the Town's horrors began with the children being betrayed and murdered. The key to understanding the Town and escaping it may be in finally righting the wrong that was done to the children, a mission that Miranda started and that Tabitha Matthews (Catalina Sandino Moreno) is now continuing.

The symbol literally being the roots of the faraway tree is its own complex matter (...)

Since it was created from the children's hope, the history of From's symbol may not be as sinister as it seemed to be, meaning that it was something other than the symbol that corrupted Christopher. The symbol literally being the roots of the faraway tree is its own complex matter, since the faraway trees have helped Julie Matthews (Hannah Cheramy) and others survive, but they have also led to horrific fates, including trapping Dale (Cliff Saunders) in the pool wall. From still has many mysteries to solve, but the origins of the symbol and its connections is a game-changing answer.
