Even during season 3, viewers don't know a lot about the music box monster. Clearly, it delights in sending the townspeople visions before killing them and seems to be located inside the ruins (or dungeon) that Boyd found in the forest. In season 2, the music box monster is so powerful that it's able to kill people in their sleep.
