What Language Is "Anghkooey" & Where Are The Original Residents/Children From?

There Are Plenty Of Unanswered Questions About The Children's Backstories

We now know that “Anghkooey” means “,” but we still have no idea what language that word comes from. Of course, it could just be a made-up phrase that the children used, as From’s monsters that sacrificed them speak English. But, since we have no information about the backstories of the monsters or the children before the sacrifice, there’s no current way of knowing whether “Anghkooey” reflects a larger fictional language for that population or is just an isolated phrase. It’s the only word that From’s sacrificed children have spoken in the series, so its origins remain an important mystery.

Solving the mystery around where “Anghkooey” originates from also ties into the questions about where From’s monsters and children are from. It’s been established that the monsters were once the adults in the community and many were the parents of the sacrificed children, but From hasn’t clarified the backstory of their settlement. Were they always trapped in this town? Did the sacrifice end up supernaturally closing off their town from the rest of the world? Did all those people mysteriously arrive in the Township, or had they been there all along?

MGM+ has yet to announce From season 4's release date.

The reveal of From’s monsters being created after sacrificing the children has opened up many more questions than it solved, setting up season 4 to dive much deeper into the location’s lore and history. Since From season 3’s finale is essentially the “end of the beginning” for the series, it looks like season 4 and beyond will be focused on disclosing the hidden history of the Township and its dark past, similar to how the latter half of ABC’s Lost prioritized exploring the island’s backstory through the history of the Others, DHARMA, Jacob, and the Man in Black.

From Season 4 Flashbacks Could Help Solve The Remaining Mysteries About The Children & Monsters' Origins

Julie's Story Walker Ability Or Tabitha & Jade's Visions Could Show The Township's History

There are also now a few ways in which From season 4 could go about revealing the backstory of the monsters and children. From season 3 revealed that Julie is a “story walker,” allowing her to travel through time in the Township without changing anything. Julie could use her ability to go back to before the children’s sacrifice, giving audiences a look at what the Township originally looked like and revealing how it became the nightmare-inducing location it is today. Considering one of From season 1’s monsters recognized her, there’s already a precedent for Julie to travel to that era.

Alternatively, From season 4 could show the context of the children's and monsters’ backstories through flashbacks and visions. Tabitha had visions of Miranda’s death in From season 3 before realizing she was a reincarnation of Victor’s mother, so she and Jade may be able to have visions of their original incarnations and see what their lives and the town looked like at that time. Of course, From could also include proper flashbacks to before the monsters’ creation that don’t involve any present-day characters, simply following Tabitha and Jade’s past personas during the events leading up to their daughter’s tragic sacrifice.
