When one talks about some of the most challenging yet fun gaming experiences of all time, then it goes without saying that the Dark Souls franchise will definitely be a part of this mix. The release of the 2011 classic sparked a new wave of gaming titles that stopped babying video gamers and actually provided with a high-yet-fair level of difficulty that most titles shied away from in favor of accessibility.

Dark Souls III served as a nigh-perfect sendoff to Bloodborne as well. However, as is the case with most games released on the PC, a bunch of modders decided that nothing is ever enough and released a string of custom content that fans could use to augment their game if need be. This list will take a look at ten such mods that completely destroy the dark atmosphere of Lothric with the humor they inject into the game.

Prepare To Dank Edition

Prepare To Dank Dark Souls Mod

While this might be the most barebones mod on this list, one can't deny the funny impact it has right when you boot up the game.

Basically, installing this mod turns the title screen into a complete travesty, adding every dank element one might expect from the darkest corners of the internet. Okay, maybe it's not THAT bad, it's ittedly still quite hilarious regardless.

Adidas Tracksuit

Dark Souls III absolutely nails the gothic fantasy setting, immersing you in a world that is well-realized, designed, and developed in every sense of the word. So, it's a given that modders would make something so ludicrous that it completely ruins said immersion.

Enter the Adidas Tracksuit mod, which converts the models of the Clandestine Coat and Mirrah Tros into a pair of Adidas Tracksuits that look so hopelessly out of place that you can't help but laugh.

Custom Bonfire Messages

Dark Souls Bonfire Messages

The messages that appear on the screen when you die or light a bonfire in Dark Souls have become the stuff of legends. So, obviously enough, modders took it upon themselves to make these messages as hilarious as possible.

For the most part, the bonfire messages haven't been completely butchered, although there are still a few chuckle-inducing changes you can make. This one, in particular, is bound to elicit more than a hearty guffaw from players.

Custom Death Messages

However, the bonfire messages have been left virtually untouched when compared to the sheer number of customized death messages when your character kicks the bucket.

From a sarcastic message thanking the former President of the United States to a bunch of profanity-laden messages, there's no end to the sheer number of ways you can make an infuriating moment somewhat lighthearted and tolerable.

Barrel Souls

Barrel Souls Chameleon Spell Dark Souls

The next five entries on this list are all effects from one very popular mod called Challenge Mods, that can be activated at one's behest. While it would be possible to group all these effects under one mod, we feel like it would be a disservice to the sheer litany of hilarious effects this mod can enable.

The first in this long line of effects is Barrel Souls, which basically camouflages every enemy to make them appear like random objects in the game. Suffice to say, the utter confusion that can arise as a result would be quite a treat to watch... at least, until a player gets tired of being defeated by a tombstone for the umpteenth time.

Size Modifier

Tiny Person Size Slider Dark Souls Mod

The next effect present in this mod is a size modifier, which functions exactly as one might expect. The modding prowess at display here is quite impressive since this seemingly simple effect stretches all the way to your movement speed and even your hitbox.

Want to become as small as an ant and nibble at your foes while they fail to damage you? That's very much possible. Wish to become a giant instead... and accomplish nothing whatsoever since your enlarged hitbox makes you an easy target? You can do that too!

Speed Modifier

Using the size modifier to become small can be a load of fun... until you walk a few steps and realize how painfully slow your character moves.

This is where the speed modifier comes into play, allowing you to zip past enemies in a flash regardless of your size. Watching your character become the Lothric equivalent of Flash is definitely a treat to witness in every sense of the word.

Skeleton Swap

Dark Souls 3 Chime

One of the more bizarre effects that come bundled in with Challenge Mods is the Skeleton Swap feature, which lets the main character switch out their model skeleton with that of any other NPC in the game.

As you might've guessed, the end result can be quite hilarious... and disturbing at times.

JoJo Script

JoJo Stand Mod Dark Souls

All these Challenge Mods might be impressive in their own right, but they've got nothing on this one. By enabling this mode, a player can turn the entire game of Dark Souls III into a JoJo reference.

More specifically, the player character turns into a Stand that uses the ghosts of NPCs in a particular map to use attacks on their behalf. While this mod is definitely funny to witness, one must applaud the technical skills that went into forming this concept in the first place and balancing it for later areas in the game.

Blessed Gesture

Blessed Gesture Dark Souls Mod

While it was tempting to place the JoJo Script at the very top of this list, it's easily edged out by what can only be described as a technical marvel for the ages.

The Blessed Gesture mod converts the rather tame Bow gesture into the Poison Dance from Scrubs... but a lot of people don't know that since it's more popularly know as that popular dance meme from FortniteThe end result — as you might've already guessed — is equal parts horrendous and mesmerizing.
