With a successful reboot on Paramount+, iCarly will forever be known for its classic jokes and real-life comedy. The series introduced some of the most lovable characters in an American teen sitcom and continues to be a big hit today.
These characters produced some of the funniest quotes in the original series and they are still funny til this day. Whether it's a quote of Sam taunting Freddie or Gibby saying something crazy, the original iCarly is still a masterpiece filled with hilarious quotes.
Acknowledgement Is Key
“I May Be An Idiot, But I'm Not Stupid”
Spencer Shay is Carly’s big brother and caregiver in iCarly. He's a sculpting artist that's just as goofy as the art he creates, which speaks to his character’s Pisces zodiac sign. Although he can be a carefree and fun big brother, this doesn't mean he doesn't step up as a father figure for Carly.
In episode 2x16, Carly is dating a bad boy that Spencer doesn't like and he makes it known that Carly isn't to be alone with him at home. When Carly tries to fool Spencer by continuing to see Griffin and inviting him to their apartment, she's surprised to encounter Spencer waiting for the two with him stating the quote above letting them know he may goof around and seem oblivious but he's not stupid.
Is It Really Lying If You Mean It?
“Dude Lying Is Easy, You Just Gotta Say Stuff Like It's True”
Sam is a master in all things and lying is probably one of her best mastery skills. She's able to make others believe her would and crazy tales because she speaks the lie with so much confidence. Her abilities don't go unnoticed and are sometimes needed in some situations.
In episode 2x10, Spencer is looking to learn how to lie and Sam offers her help and expertise. She states the quote above and tells Spencer that the key to lying is just saying something like it's the truth like you mean it.
Revenge Of Chuck
“It's Too Late For Sorry. Now You're Grounded, Monkey!”
Chuck is a devious little prankster that resides at the Bushwell Plaza with his father. He doesn't like to obey anyone in an authority role and he and Spencer clash when the later is filling in for Lewbert at the front desk. Their rocky start leads to Chuck being grounded he sees Spencer as his enemy.
In episode 2x17, when Spencer becomes stuck under a pile of stuff in the basement storage unit, it's Chuck that finds him. With Chuck still angry over being grounded because of Spencer, he proceeds to lock Spencer inside the storage unit, taking his keys and phone. The quote above is a funny acknowledgment from Chuck to Spencer when the later attempts to apologize and be let free from the storage cage.
Sam Is The Alpha
“When Did You Turn Into My Wife?”
Sam Puckett is not a girl afraid of being alpha in her relationships. She speaks her mind and lets people know how she feels even if it manifests itself as jokes or violent behavior. For many viewers, Sam is seen as a tom-boy that's not afraid to be seen as such.
In the episode 2x18, Sam and Freddie are sharing the school's most famous locker, making them locker mates. When Sam takes it upon herself to decorate their locker without Freddie’s input, he states his displeasure. In response, Sam replies with the funny quote above by asking Freddie when did he turn into her wife, insinuating that Freddie is the female in their relationship and Sam is the male.
Mom In Flames
“Oh Really, You Wanna See My Mom Burst Into Flames?”
No parent is more dramatic than Freddie’s mom, Mrs. Benson. She's overly protective of Freddie and makes it her mission to be there in the most overbearing ways. She wants to be the only lady in Freddie’s life, so, no girl would ever truly be good enough for Freddie and Freddie was aware of this. Although emotional, she just wanted the best for Freddie as any mother should for their child which makes her a likable iCarly main character from this viewpoint.
In episode 5x03, Freddie and Sam are officially dating, however, they are keeping their relationship secret from his mother. When Carly states that Freddie will eventually have to tell his mom about him and Sam dating, Freddie replies with the quote above acknowledging that his mother finding out he's dating Sam would be a bad idea that would lead her to burst into flames.
Nobody Like Gibby
“Great. Now When I Sit I'm Gonna Have To Put All My Weight On My Left Buttock!”
A side character that many fans wanted back for the iCarly reboot but probably wouldn't be making an appearance, Gibby was a unique and quirky character that fits in with the trio-Carly, Sam, and Freddie- perfectly. He's sometimes the butt of the jokes and Sam’s punching bag at times, however, he rolls with the punches.
In this episode, Gibby is confused to learn that Carly’s dad is coming into town and asks if Spencer is not her dad. Because of this dumb question, Sam proceeds to shoot a paintball at the right side of his buttocks, and he quotes that he'll have to place all his weight on his left side buttocks.
Freddy Isn't Funny
“You'd Rather Do Comedy With A Sack Of Yogurt Than Me?”
In the original iCarly, Sam and Carly are the funny ones of the trio and make up the jokes for iCarly. When it comes to Freddie, he's the man behind the camera so when he wants to showcase his funny in front of the camera, the girls are a bit reluctant.
In episode 5x08, Carly is headed to Yakima for the weekend, leaving Sam to figure out who going to host iCarly with her when Freddy volunteers to do so. In a funny exchange, Sam suggests she get a bag of yogurt and just put a face on it to which Freddy replies with the quote above. He can't believe that Sam would rather host iCarly with a bag of yogurt rather than him.
Mrs.Benson Loves Her Rhymes
“Wet And Sticky Is Very Icky. Sticky And Wet Makes Mommy Upset.”
Eccentric and dramatic, Mrs.Benson is all about being a mother to Freddie even when she's a overbearing and suffocating. She likes perfection and dislikes messes and dangerous situations. Her character is quick to point out when something is wrong and this criticism stems to both kids and adults.
When the kids cause Lewbert to get hurt in episode 2x04, Spencer takes on Lewbert’s job as a doorman. After spilling soda all over the front desk counter, Mrs. Benson shows up and unknowingly places her hand in the mess. The quote above is Mrs.Benson’s hilarious reaction to the mess created by Spencer.
Lewbert Gets Hurt
“Don't You Mean Welcome Back From The Hospital...AGAIN?”
Probably one of the most dislikable main characters on iCarly, Lewbert makes it hard for the residents of Bushwell Plaza to like him. He's mean and unapproachable, causing him to be the butt of Carly and her friend's pranks, however, these pranks can go too far resulting in some serious consequences.
After Carly and her friends prank Lewbert with a rigged muffin basket in 2x04, Lewbert is hurt and the kids are tasked with taking care of him. As they care for him, they cause a ceiling fan to collapse on him, sending him to the hospital for a second time. This quote is a result of his second hospital visit thanks to Carly, Sam, and Freddie.
A Grounded Chucky
“Who’s Grounded Now Chucky? Whoops You Are!”
Although his feud with Spencer never seemed to end in his favor, Chuck/Chuckie continued his taunting every chance he got. He always found himself grounded or apologizing for his shenanigans and this would rightfully earn him the nickname Chuckie.
In episode 2x17, Chuck locks Spencer up in the buildings basement storage room for 2 days. When Chuck’s father comes looking for him and finds out that he's locked Spencer up, he's subsequently grounded and this is when Spencer hilariously states the quote above.
