The most dangerous tyrant in the Futurama universe is a shocking combination of the series' heroes Fry, Leela and Bender – as revealed in Bongo Comics Futurama line of comics, which at one point saw the Planet Express crew catapulted beyond the 31st century, farther into Earth's future, where they encountered the despotic Sir Leela Von Fry-Bot.
In 2007's Futurama #32 –by Ian Boothby, Andrew Pepoy, Karen Bates and Nathan Hamill – the climax to the issue's "Doctor What" story arc finds the Planet Express crew in the distant future where mutants and robots have rebelled against humanity, enslaving them.
The leader of this uprising, which conquered the Futurama universe, will come as a shock to fans of the main Futurama trio, as it turns out Fry and Leela's son is the one in charge.
The Earth's Future Is At The Mercy of Fry And Leela's Offspring
There have been a fair amount of villains in the world of Futurama. Perhaps the most notable is Mom, head of the Friendly Robot Company, given her plots to rule the 31st Century with an iron fist through corporate executive measures. Some Mom's most notorious actions include brainwashing customers to buy her products, and nearly succeeding in a robot uprising on Mother's Day. However, fans may be shocked to learn that she's not even close to being Earth's cruelest tyrant, when Futurama's comics are taken into . This horrific character, known as Sir Leelan Von Fry-Bot, is a combination of the main Futurama characters, merged into one villainous figure.
Leelan Von Fry-Bot Rose To Power By Appealing To Mutants And Robots
The cruel Von Fry-Bot seen in Futurama #32 has the same hairstyle as Leela, plus her single eye, while sharing his father, Phillip J. Fry's hair color. Bringing the nightmarish design home is the fact that he has taken Bender's body and to use as his own. It's a terrifying combination, made even worse by knowing Bender was beheaded, so that Fry-Bot could become a savior to robotkind the way he had become to Earth's mutants. Fry and Leela are so shocked by this reveal in fact that it actually takes Bender teaming up with Zoidberg to save the crew and escape to their time.
Born with mutant genes, Leelan was rejected by society above-ground but welcomed by the sewer's mutant society. His popularity led to a rebellion against New New York. This concept was explored in the season six episode "The Mutants Are Revolting," so it's not outside the realm of possibility for Futurama's mutants to successfully rise up again. When Leelan Von Fry-Bot takes Bender's body as his own, it allows him to gain allyship with robots, as well to secure a dominant force, one that overthrew human civilization before, in the episode "Mother's Day." With these two factions behind him, this cemented Leelan Von Fry-Bot firmly in power.
While Fry and Leela's son only appears in a few short pages in Futurama #32, it's remains an image so nightmare-inducing that it has burned itself into the minds of readers. The TV series has yet to explore if this future ends up happening, but based on their experience, it's likely the Planet Express crew will do everything in their power to prevent it. Mutants have become accepted in New New York following "The Mutants Are Revolting," so Leelan Von Fry-Bot may already be erased from history. However, even if he never rises to power, this won't prevent him from haunting the dreams of Futurama fans, as a nightmarish dictator combining the show's three best characters.
