Futurama's Planet Express Tower Is Actually A Farnsworth Invention
He Uses It To Bring A Monster To Life
The Planet Express Building plays a major role in Futurama season 12, episode 6, "Attack of the Clothes," with it being revealed that the Planet Express Building's tower is actually a Farnsworth invention. Throughout Futurama, the Planet Express building has always featured an oddly shaped tower, one that seemingly has no bearing on the day-to-day operations of the company. While several rooms from within the tower have been shown off, the show has only now explained why the tower is necessary.
New episodes of Futurama release Mondays on Hulu.
In the opening of the episode, the Planet Express tower flips upside down. It is revealed that Farnsworth is attempting to bring his own version of Frankenstein's monster to life, with the tower actually being a giant ray that emits the power required to bring life to the corpse. While this is a funny visual gag, it is also a major lore reveal, possibly highlighting why the tower has always looked that way.

Futurama Finally Calls Out The Show’s Worst Curse That Began 21 Years Ago
Futurama's opening subtitle gag just called out the show's most unfortunate trend, directly addressing one of the biggest problems it has faced.
Futurama's Planet Express Reveal Creates A Huge Series Plot Hole
Was The Tower's Ray Always There?
While this Planet Express reveal is funny, it actually creates a huge Futurama plot hole. Planet Express is not the first company that occupied the building, with Farnsworth simply purchasing it when establishing it. In fact, "I Know What You Did Next Xmas" reveals that a meat company owned the Planet Express building in the 2800s, raising one obvious question.
If Farnsworth didn't construct the building, it is a mystery as to why the tower was there before Planet Express took over. Was the tower still a giant ray in the 2800s? It could also be that Farnsworth modified it upon moving in. Obviously, the giant tower ray is a simple visual gag that is meant to be funny, but it does have some broader implications for the world of Futurama.
