Samsung confirmed the launch date of its Galaxy S23 series, which is expected to include the vanilla S23, along with the S23 Plus and S23 Ultra. The company has opened reservations for the three devices in the U.S., with a $50 store credit on offer for to sweeten the deal. The company is also accepting pre-orders for its Galaxy Book 3 laptop.
According to the South Korean tech blog Galaxy S23 Plus should bring some upgrades, but a lot depends on how the device sells. If the report is accurate, it would mean that next year's lineup will only include the vanilla Galaxy S24 and the flagship Galaxy S24 Ultra.
Confusion Over The Galaxy S24 Plus
However, the report is being challenged by SamMobile, which is citing its sources to say that Samsung has no plans to get rid of the Plus model just yet. Calling the South Korean report 'misleading,' the Samsung-centric blog suggests that the S24 Plus is still in development, and should appear with its flagship siblings next year.
According to SamMobile, 'DM' stands for Diamond, which is the codename for the Galaxy S23 lineup and not the S24. Indeed, DM1 and DM3 stand for the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Ultra, and despite the lack of the DM2 moniker, most leaks and rumors suggest that, like previous generations, Samsung is widely expected to retain the Plus model this year.
According to the market research firm Gfk, the Galaxy S22 Plus ed for only 17 percent of all Galaxy S22 series shipments last year, a poor showing compared to the 38 and 45 percent of the S22 and S22 Ultra, respectively. The speculation about the fate of the Plus model is understandable since it doesn't do enough to distinguish itself from the other two devices in the series. Its selling point is the larger display compared to the otherwise mostly similar standard model with many of the same specs and features, without the cheaper price tag. It will be interesting to see if Samsung will retain all three models in the Galaxy S24 lineup next year.
