The latest and most foldable phone to come from the house of Samsung is the Galaxy Z Fold 4. In spite of the foldable sector still being in its infancy, Samsung has moved quickly to establish itself as the leading foldable phone brand, and even though its cheaper Z Flip series has proven to be more popular, the Galaxy Z Fold lineup continues to be the best foldables that Samsung sells.
The first Galaxy Fold phone was launched back in 2019 and instantly attracted attention. However, with foldables being as immature as they were back then, there were plenty of concerns raised newer one improving on the last. In particular, improving on the durability.
That’s also the case this year with Samsung being quick to highlight the improved durability with its new Galaxy Z Fold 4. In fact, Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is 45-percent more durable than the previous model and its most durable foldable phone to date. At the same time, it is also lighter and sleeker. The main display itself is mostly unchanged, resulting in a 7.6-inch WXGA+ Infinity Flex Display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, Likewise, the cover display is still a 6.2-inch HD+ Infinity-O Display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
Samsung’s Fold Continues To Evolve
With four generations of Fold under its belt, Samsung is continuing to refine its process of making foldable phones and this seems to be the main takeaway with the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The improvements in design result in a smartphone that is now starting to take shape as a thin and sleek device. However, the improvements are not just about making it thinner and slimmer. Samsung also says it has latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC. This is then coupled with 12GB RAM and either 512GB, 256GB, or 1TB internal storage.
Another notable improvement is that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is the first device to actually ship with Android 12L. Unlike the standard Android 12, the L version is specifically designed by Google for foldables and other large-screen devices. As a result, the software is basically tailor-made for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and packaged beneath Samsung’s One UI 4.1.1. Other areas of the software that have been improved include a new PC-like taskbar on the main screen, new swipe gestures, and a quicker and easier ability to switch between modes to maximize the multitasking experience.
The Galaxy Fold 4 officially goes on sale on August 26 with the price starting at $1,799 in the United States. Pre-orders open today and buyers have the choice of choosing between Gray, Green, Beige, and Phantom Black color options. If ordering directly from Samsung’s website, there is also the option of buying a Burgundy Galaxy Z Fold 4.
