Samsung announced the Z Fold 4 at its Galaxy Unpacked event on Aug. 10. Alongside the Fold 4, the company also unveiled the Z Flip 4 clamshell phone, the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro earbuds, and the Galaxy Watch 5 series.
Xiaomi announced the MIX Fold 2 on Aug. 11 at a mega event that also saw the unveiling of the CyberOne bipedal humanoid robot. The bot comes with an advanced humanoid bipedal control algorithm and has human-like posture and balance. Aug. 11 also saw the launch of the Moto Razr 2022, capping a busy week for foldable phones worldwide.
Samsung's As for the MIX Fold 2, it has an 8.02-inch (2,160 x 1,914) 120Hz OLED LTPO display with for Dolby Vision and HDR10+. Both the Z Fold 4 and MIX Fold 2 come with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.
Specs, Features, And Price
In of design, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 features a pill-shaped camera housing on the rear, while the MIX Fold 2 has a rectangular camera module. On the front, both have a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera. The Z Fold 4 also has an under-display camera at the top of the main display. While both the devices have almost the exact same weight (263g vs. 262g), the MIX Fold 2 is slightly slimmer. It is 5.4mm thick when unfolded and 11.2mm thick when folded, while the Samsung device measures 6.3mm and 14.2mm, respectively.
Both the Z Fold 4 and the Mix Fold 2 are powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset and come with 12GB of RAM. They are also both offered in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage variants. Both phones offer a triple-camera setup on the back. The Galaxy foldable comes with a 50MP main sensor alongside a 12MP ultra-wide camera and a 10MP telephoto shooter with 30X Space Zoom and 3x optical zoom. The Xiaomi device also ships with a 50MP primary camera, but with a 13MP ultra-wide and 8MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. In the front, the former has a 10MP camera, while the latter has a 20MP sensor.
In of battery capacities, the Z Fold 4 sports a 4,400mAh battery, while the MIX Fold 2 comes with a 4,500mAh unit. The Z Fold 4 also has an IPX8 rating, while the MIX Fold 2 misses out on any kind water-resistance. On the software side, both the phones ship with Android 12. Pricing starts at $1,799 for the Z Fold 4 and 8,999 Yuan (around $1,327) for the MIX Fold 2. However, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is available globally, the MIX Fold 2 is only available in China for now.
