The keen interest in getting the ball rolling on the Remy LeBeau's solo film once again.

After all this time, it seems like things are finally progressing smoothly. The spinoff film is expected to bow in February 2019, with Candra potentially playing the story's big bad. Regardless of what happens, it appears that the studio still plans on filming the movie in the character's hometown of New Orleans.

hasn't changed since March 2016, when the studio was last scheduled to roll cameras on the spinoff movie. Considering that the city and the region plays an integral role in the character's history, it's certainly good news that the studio plans on filming the movie there.

Gambit red eyes

For those that don't know, Remy LeBeau, aka Gambit, is a mutant who has the ability to manipulate objects, particularly playing cards, using kinetic energy. Aside from his superpowers, what makes the character unique is the fact that he's from the U.S. state of Louisiana, something that he's truly proud of. Furthermore, he possesses a thick Cajun accent, which is partially why Tatum campaigned for the role in the first place, considering that he's from that region and his family has ties to New Orleans.

Although the Gambit movie will mark the character's first solo debut, it won't be his first live-action debut within the long-running X-Men franchise. LeBeau was originally played by Taylor Kitsch in Gavin Hood's X-Men Origins: Wolverine. However, the film was chastised by critics and audiences alike, and while the studio gave Ryan Reynolds another shot at playing Deadpool, they didn't do the same for Kitsch. Tatum will, instead, play the eponymous character in Verbinski's Gambit film, with Léa Seydoux presumably still signed on to play the female lead, Bella Donna Boudreaux.
