Cajun thief who has lost his greatest love.
In TVA #3 – written by Katharyn Blair, with art by Pere Pérez – the TVA suspect Jimmy Hudson, the son of Wolverine, of stabbing Mobius, and attempt to arrest him, which prompts Gambit to come to his teammates' aid, pulling out his pièce de résistance: the card Gambit wields is a Queen of Hearts that features his most cherished X-Men, Rogue.
While this variant of Gambit’s Rogue is gone, the nod to Rogue shows that the power-zapping southern belle is still a part of Gambit’s life, with her death likely playing a major part in this variant of Gambit’s origin.
Marvel Almost Dropped The Ball On The X-Men’s Best Romance – Now It Presents That Tragic Reality
TVA #3 – Story By Katharyn Blair; Art By Pere Pérez; Color By Guru-eFX; Lettering By Joe Sabino
Rogue and Gambit are the X-Men’s most persevering couple, with the two lovebirds’ relationship surviving several breakups, world-ending threats, and connection to the Mutant Massacre, and the couple also faced trouble in their solo-series, Rogue & Gambit, when Marvel contemplated splitting the two up permanently. Luckily, Rogue and Gambit remain an item, but the same can’t be said for the TVA’s Gambit variant.
Rogue’s image featured on Gambit’s iconic cards adds layers to the variant's backstory.
When the TVA enlists the help of a Gambit variant along with Ghost-Spider and Jimmy Hudson, it is revealed that featured on Gambit’s iconic cards adds layers to the variant's backstory. When Jimmy questions Gambit about his card of Rogue, Gambit replies he will talk about anything but her, clearly showing how her absence continues to affect him.
Gambit & Rogue Is An All-Time Great Marvel Universe Love Story Across Many Timelines
Remy Is Haunted By Rogue's Memory
Despite being gone, Rogue has been mentioned and has made several appearances throughout the TVA series, with Gambit being forced to face a zombified illusion of his wife during a mission in an alternate dimension. Gambit and Rogue have had one of the most endearing relationships in X-Men but this downtrodden version of Gambit without Rogue is a daring departure from his normally suave demeanor. Gambit’s small tribute to Rogue is both sweet and heartbreaking, and with how often X-Men hero Gambit is shown commemorating her, there is a high chance the mystery surrounding Rogue’s demise will be further explored.
