With so many lands and kingdoms existing in the world of Game of Thrones, it makes sense that there would also be different royal houses that more often than not ended up competing for power. One of the more prominent families was the Lannisters whose primary home was the Casterly Rock. The Lannisters gained even more power thanks to Cersei's marriage to the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, King Robert Baratheon.
However, the family doesn't comprise only of Cersei and her two brothers, Jaime and Tyrion. The Lannister family includes a lot of people, some of whom have a more interesting life story than others.
Alton Lannister
Game of Thrones sees a lot of characters die a rather cruel death. Alton Lannister was one of them, but his death didn't leave a big mark since he only appeared in the show for three episodes.
The Starks captured Alton, and they later placed him in the same prison cell as Jaime Lannister. Jaime then beat Alton to death with his chains, making sure Alton would never appear in the show again.
Martyn And Willem Lannister
Other of the Lannister family who met their death while held captive were the two young boys - Martyn and Willem Lannister, sons of Kevan.
Rickard Karstark murdered them as revenge when he learned that Jaime murdered his son. And even though Robb Stark wasn't happy about the murder, there was nothing he could have done to save Martyn and Willem from their gruesome fate.
Kevan Lannister
Kevan Lannister is one of the Lannisters who mostly stands in the background. He's clever and capable, but he's no Tywin Lannister either.
He didn't play a big part in the show and was one of the many characters who died. Kevan served as the Hand of the King after Tywin Lannister's death, but he died when Cersei caused the wildfire explosion in the Sept of Baelor.
Myrcella Baratheon
Even though she had Robert Baratheon's name, Myrcella was a Lannister, just like all of her siblings. She was also one of the few truly innocent of the family, alongside her young brother.
Myrcella just wanted to marry a boy she liked and live happily ever after. But she died when Ellaria poisoned her, and all the dreams and hopes she had for the future fell apart.
Lancel Lannister
Lancel Lannister is one of the least sympathetic Lannisters - and also one of the few ive ones. Lancel never had a drive for power as his relatives did. He just let others manipulate him and didn't seem to want to try to build an independent life for himself.
Cersei first used him as Jaime's replacement, Tyrion then had Lancel spy on Cersei, and finally, Lancel became a servant of the Faith Militant. So when he died, nobody regretted his ing.
Tommen Baratheon
The youngest member of the Lannister family was good and kind-hearted, albeit weak and easily manipulated.
Tommen was nothing like his brother Joffrey, he just wanted to lead a peaceful rule and he loved his wife Margaery, despite the age difference between them. But when Margaery died, Tommen lost his will to live and killed himself. Ironically enough, his one true independent gesture was also his last.
Tywin Lannister
Tywin Lannister was the head of the Lannister family - and also one of the most cunning and ruthless men in the Kingdoms.
get rid of his enemies. However, Tywin made the fatal mistake of underestimating his son's desperation, and that led to his less than dignified death caused by Tyrion's hand.
Joffrey Baratheon
Joffrey remains one of the most hated characters on the show - and for a good reason. He was cruel and vindictive, liked to hurt both people and animals simply because he enjoyed it. He tormented Sansa, held her father's death over her, and tortured and abused countless people.
He was also cruel toward his younger brother. It was likely Joffrey would grow only worse with age, but in one of the most satisfying moments on the show, he died during his wedding, poisoned by Olenna Tyrell (although that was unknown at the time). Many fans of the show celebrated Joffrey's death and there was no love lost for him.
Cersei Lannister
Unlike her brother who eventually became nobler, Cersei grew more and more evil. But she wasn't cruel or cold toward others for the mere purpose of being evil. She acted this way because she believed it was for the good of her family and her kingdom.
Cersei was manipulative just like her father and willing to kill many people - or, more precisely, have them killed. Her intelligence slowly transformed into dangerous madness when she lost all her children - that's when Cersei became truly unhinged and even more unpredictable.
Jaime Lannister
If it wasn't for his final decision to return to his sister and lover, Jaime could have had one of the best character arcs in the show. He was selfish and capable of awful deeds at the beginning of the show.
But he eventually realized his mistakes, knew true remorse, and became kinder and nobler. That was partially thanks to his love/hate relationship with Brienne, whose sense of honor had an impact on Jaime. Unfortunately, Jaime chose to leave Brienne shortly after they had gotten together, and he rode to his death alongside Cersei.
