Sir Jorah Mormont was a fan favorite character on Daenerys Targaryen, and he felt it his duty to protect her.

He had ups and downs and was part of some of the most pivotal moments of the series. He was fiercely loyal and owned up to his mistakes when he made them (eventually).

But there are some things about him that would never fly today, and others that would fit right in with the modern world.

His Obsession With Dany: Never Fly

Jorah started out spying on Dany, reporting details of her and her brother's life back to Varys. But he quickly began to respect her and everything she stood for. He saved her life, protected her at all costs, and pledged his allegiance to her, valiantly right until the very last moments of his life.

Along with believing in her politics, he also developed strong romantic feelings for her. Today, his obsessive nature toward Dany would be considered creepy and weird, which to be fair, it was.

His Dedication To Dany: Would Fly

While his romantic feelings for his boss would be considered totally unprofessional today, his dedication to her and her cause would totally be respected today. Jorah looked out for Dany at every turn. He saved her life on more than one occasion and voluntarily fought on her behalf.

He was sort of like her personal bodyguard or Secret Service. Even when she started to get worse and he questioned her decisions, he still faithfully stood by her side.

The Ageist Attitude Toward Him: Never Fly

While Dany never really seemed turned off by the age difference between she and Jorah – she seemed more so just to simply not have a romantic interest in him – that didn't stop others from making fun of the fact that Jorah was much older than Dany and clearly had a crush on her.

Today, age differences in relationships don't matter that much. Older men date younger women all the time and vice versa. And frankly, actor Iian Glen is pretty easy on the eyes, regardless of age!

His Experience And Value: Would Fly

Jorah Mormont reveals he has greyscale in Game of Thrones

Jorah was such a great warrior that he was knighted, and he eventually become the Lord of Bear Island and head of House Mormont.

Several times during battles, Jorah was looked at as an easy target because of his age. But he came out swinging and demonstrated his true value and skill, much to everyone's surprise. Today, in many businesses and other areas of the world, the same level of experience and ability for strategic restraint holds a lot of value.

Miraculously Being Cured: Never Fly

When Jorah contracted the disease greyscale, which is effectively considered a slow and painful death sentence, it seemed like it was all over for him.

Yet he managed to miraculously survive after visiting the Citadel. Samwell Tarly used some old and painstaking method to try and save him, and it miraculously worked! While that would be wonderful nowadays, no amount of research in the span of a day or two would be able to accomplish that, and on the other side of that coin, no brutal disease that could actually be cured would just be left to kill everyone who contracts it either.

Working As a Spy: Would Fly

Game of Thrones Jorah exile

Working as a spy, Jorah was looked down upon when he was caught, as any spy would be today. But the truth of the matter is that spies do still exist in today's world. Which means that this aspect of Jorah would totally make sense today.

While he might not be able to simply leave the country and move to another one in exile as a punishment, the fact that he worked as a spy is nothing foreign to this day and age.

His Outfit Choice: Never Fly

Jorah's armor and clothing were, of course, a product of the time and the fictional place. But like any other characters in Westeros, it wouldn't fly today unless he were doing some kind of historical or cosplay re-enactment or dres for Halloween.

Jorah wore heavy armor most of the time, because it was necessary at that time and in his role. His gruff facial hair and slicked back blonde hair would totally work. But the clothes would have to go!

His High Maintenance Wife: Would Fly

The concept of a high maintenance spouse still exists today, even if what the person lusts after is very different, like cars and high heeled shoes versus golden jewelry and rare, expensive foods.

Jorah was actually married, but his wife reportedly had very expensive tastes. While Jorah was wealthy, he couldn't keep up with her material demands. That's something with which many people today can relate, along with the fact that his wife eventually left him because of it.

Involvement In Slavery: Never Fly

In no way, shape, or form would slavery be tolerated today. And that is the despicable business Jorah got involved with in attempt to fund his wife's lavish desires. He would sell poachers into slavery, making tons of money in the process in hopes of pleasing her.

Aside from being unacceptable, that practice had also been illegal in all Seven Kingdoms for years, not to mention considered taboo. If Jorah were convicted of something like that today, it would be a life sentence locked away in prison.

Being Multilingual: Would Fly

A man of Jorah's distinguished status was, not surprisingly, fluent in multiple languages. In the case of Westeros, he spoke both the Common Tongue (i.e. English) as well as Dothraki. It's possible (and likely) he spoke other languages as well.

It's pretty common nowadays for people in high positions to be bilingual or even multilingual, just like Jorah. Of course, if he were around today, his second language might be something like French, Spanish, or Chinese. But hey, Dothraki is pretty complicated, too!
