The cast of Game of Thrones makes up one of the largest television ensembles in history. The show features many veteran actors with long careers as well as plenty of talents who became popular following the success of the show. So it makes sense that these stars would cross paths from time to time.
Both before and after working together in the world of Westeros, several Game of Thrones actors have appeared together in other notable projects. For fans of the show, it is a lot of fun to see the cast step away from their time as Lannisters and Starks for totally different roles.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Iain Glen And Alexander Siddiq - Kingdom Of Heaven (2005)
Even before Game of Thrones was on the air, it seemed a common trend for the future actors of the show to participate in medieval movies and shows. Such was the case with Ridley Scott's historical epic Kingdom of Heaven.
Though it starred the likes of Orlando Bloom and Liam Neeson, there were a few Game of Thrones actors who appeared in smaller roles. Before playing Jaime Lannister and Jorah Mormont respectively, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau and Iain Glen appeared in the movie, alongside Alexander Siddiq who played Doran Martell in season 5.
Sean Bean And Carice Van Houten - Black Death (2010)
Though they never met in the series, both Sean Bean and Carice van Houten played very significant roles in Game of Thrones. Bean famously played Ned Stark, the doomed main character of the first season while van Houten played the Red Priestess Melisandre.
A year before the show premiered, they starred together in Black Death about a group of holy warriors investigating a village unaffected by the plague. Interestingly, the movie also had Bean playing an honorable yet stubborn fighter while van Houten played a woman accused of practicing dark magic.
Natalie Dormer And Gwendoline Christie - Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015)
Margaery Tyrell and Brienne of Tarth are two of the best female characters on Game of Thrones. Each proved themselves very capable throughout the series in very different ways. Margaery was a brilliant political strategist while Brienne was one of Westeros's best warriors.
Actors Natalie Dormer and Gwendoline Christie both appeared in the final Hunger Games movie, playing characters of similar skills. Dormer played Cressida who creates propaganda for the rebels while Christie played Lyme, one of the top commanding officers of the rebellion.
Stephen Dillane And Maisie Williams - Mary Shelley (2017)
Elle Fanning starred in the historical biopic Mary Shelley about the young female writer who met and fell in love with the poet Percy Shelley while also finding her inspiration to write the ground-breaking novel, Frankenstein.
Though they never shared screen time as Stannis Baratheon and Arya Stark, Stephen Dillane and Maisie Williams both appeared as ing characters in Mary's life. Dillane played Mary's father while Williams appeared as one of her childhood friends.
Carice Van Houten And Liam Cunningham - Black Butterflies (2011)
When Game of Thrones actors share the screen outside of the show, it is interesting to see how their characters' relationships differ from the series. In the case of Carice van Houten and Liam Cunningham, they were enemies on the show as Melisandre and Davos Seaworth with Davos even trying to kill Melisandre several times.
However, the drama Black Butterflies had them in a romantic relationship which would no doubt be a shock for fans. The movie told the story of South African poet Ingrid Jonker (van Houten) with Cunningham playing her lover.
Peter Dinklage And Sean Bean - Pixels (2015)
Tyrion Lannister and Ned Stark are two of the most beloved characters on Game of Thrones, so it is a thrill to have a movie in which actors Peter Dinklage and Sean Bean both star. However, few could have predicted they would reunite on the Adam Sandler sci-fi comedy Pixels.
The movie revolved around aliens attacking Earth in the style of classic arcade characters like Pacman and Donkey Kong so several former arcade champions are recruited to defeat them. Dinklage played one of the champions while Bean had a cameo as an army general.
Lena Headey And Charles Dance - Pride And Prejudice And Zombies (2016)
Lena Headey and Charles Dance had a lot of screen time together on Game of Thrones as two of the most ruthless of House Lannister. Heady played Cersei Lannister while Dance played the patriarch of the family, Tywin Lannister.
In Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, Heady and Dance once again appeared in a violent world threatened by the undead. The movie is a humorous take of the classic Jane Austen story reimagined during a zombie plague. Heady plays a high-class woman and fearsome zombie hunter while Dance plays a much kinder and gentler patriarch of a family of warrior women.
Ciarán Hinds, Tobias Menzies And Indira Varma - Rome (2005-2007)
There was another HBO show that involved a lot of swords, bloody deaths, and shocking plot twists before Game of Thrones came along. Rome was one of the biggest scale series in television history and explored the history of the famous city. It also seemed to prepare a number of actors for Game of Thrones.
Ciarán Hinds, who played Mance Rayder on Game of Thrones, played Julius Caesar while Tobias Menzies played his traitorous friend, Brutus, before playing Edmure Tully. Indira Varma, best known as Ellaria Sand, played Niobe, the wife of a Roman warrior in the series.
Jim Broadbent, Natalia Tena, Ralph Ineson And David Bradley - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
Between Game of Thrones and Harry Potter, it seems like every modern British actor has appeared in the two franchises. Indeed, there is also a lot of crossover between the two, with the most Game of Thrones actors appearing in the final Harry Potter movie.
Jim Broadbent played Archmaester Ebrose in Game of Thrones and Professor Slughorn in Harry Potter. Natalia Tena also had a fan-favorite role in both franchises as the Wildling Osha in Game of Thrones and Tonks in Harry Potter. Ralph Inseson played a smaller villain role in both while David Bradley played the hated Walder Frey in Game of Thrones and the creepy Filch in Harry Potter.
Sean Bean And Kit Harrington - Silent Hill: Revelation (2012)
It is interesting to consider that, despite their connection, Ned Stark and Jon Snow shared only a couple of scenes together in Game of Thrones. Quite unexpectedly, Sean Bean and Kit Harrington had a chance to reunite in the video game movie sequel Silent Hill: Revelation.
The movie followed a young woman who is lured to Silent Hill by a cult. Bean played the girl's father while Harrington played a young man who s her on the adventure. Unfortunately, the Game of Thrones reunion is about all that fans found interesting about the movie.
