A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is confirmed to be on the way. A variety of other spinoffs, however, are either in development or have been canceled.
In a new post on his Not A Blog called "The Canals of Braavos," Martin reveals that a Braavos Game of Thrones spinoff was once in development, but HBO shelved the idea several years ago. After discussing his inspirations for the city of Braavos, which include Venice, Italy, and Amstedam in the Netherlands, Martin teases that he could actually return to this spinoff in written form in the future. Check out an excerpt from his blog below:
One of these days I need to write that story about Braavos we were developing for HBO. They shelved that one a couple of years back, alas, but that does not mean I won’t go back to it… after WINDS OF WINTER is done, of course.
What The Braavos Spinoff Cancellation Means For The Game Of Thrones Universe
Which Spinoffs Are Still In Development?
Though Game of Thrones season 8 was controversial, the show was still a massively successful endeavor. A variety of spinoff shows were confirmed in the months and years following the mothership show's conclusion, but some have seemingly fallen by the wayside. The announced Jon Snow spinoff has been shelved, as have shows built around Flea Bottom, the Seven Gods, and the fall of Valyria.

Every Game Of Thrones Spinoff Explained
Game of Thrones ended, but audiences returned to Westeros for House of the Dragon - and HBO has even more Game of Thrones spinoffs in development.
A number of others remain in development, but that doesn't mean they won't eventually be canceled too. "In development," after all, doesn't mean that a project has been greenlit, and it's a phrase signaling that a showrunner and writers are attempting to come up with a compelling enough story for a show. Game of Thrones spinoffs that either remain in development or have an unknown status include 10,000 Ships, Aegon's Conquest, The Sea Snake/ Nine Voyages, and The Golden Empire.
Both Golden Empire and Nine Voyages are reported to be animated shows rather than live-action.
Our Take On The Cancelled Braavos Game Of Thrones Spinoff
Westeros Will Continue To Expand
Even though not all of the above spinoffs will get made, the world of Westeros is still set to be a prominent fixture of the entertainment landscape in the years ahead as House of the Dragon season 3 and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms both approach. The Braavos spinoff will not be among the shows in the franchise, but Martin's tease that he may not be done with the idea suggests that readers could be in for an exciting new adventure in the future.
Thankfully, however, Martin's blog suggests that this Braavos tale won't take precedence over Winds of Winter, which readers have been waiting a number of years for. It's not clear if this spinoff would take the form of a Fire & Blood-type history text or as more of a narrative story, but Martin is evidently keen on further expanding his Game of Thrones universe in the years ahead.
