Though Game of Thrones is filled with questionable characters, Jon Snow has always been easy to like. He might be a bit brooding at times, but he is also very heroic and honorable. So it's no surprise that Jon has made a number of good friends throughout his journey in Westeros.
Jon's romances with Daenerys and Ygritte may have ended violently, but these other relationships have offered a lot to Jon. From fighting alongside him in battles to offering him much-needed advice to sharing a rare moment of levity, Jon Snow knew how to make some solid friends.
Tyrion Lannister
Jon and Tyrion meet in the first episode as outcasts in their own families. Though Jon does his best to ignore Tyrion, he cannot deny the fact that the Lannister lord is offering him some very valuable advice about accepting how the world sees him and embracing it.
That honest conversation forms a bond between the men which is rekindled when Jon s Daenerys in her quest to be queen. They face many difficult decisions together, including killing Daenerys, but they understand that they share a connection few people would understand.
Lyanna Mormont
When Jon seeks to recruit Northern lords to fight against the Boltons, one of the first people he goes to is young Lyanna Mormont who serves as the head of House Mormont. Despite her age, Lyanna is tough, smart, and very blunt with her words which immediately earns her Jon's respect.
Lyanna is also extremely loyal, becoming Jon's most outspoken er, lecturing and insulting the other lords who are reluctant to stand with him. In fact, it is Lyanna who first calls for Jon to be named King in the North.
Maester Aemon
As the maester of Castle Black, Aemon deals with countless men of the Night's Watch, but he quickly recognizes special potential in Jon Snow. He ends up being one of his most valuable advisors throughout his journey.
It is Aemon who teaches Jon the lesson of choosing between love and duty. He is also the one who tells him to "kill the boy" to allow Jon to become the man he needs to be. And Aemon even casts the final winning vote that names Jon Lord Commander of the Night's Watch.
Jeor Mormont
While Aemon taught Jon about his duty as a member of the Night's Watch, it was Lord Commander Jeor Mormont who put Jon on the path to becoming a true leader. He takes Jon under his wing as his own personal squire, grooming him to one day command.
Jeor teaches Jon the difficult lessons of being in the Night's Watch, such as learning to follow before he learns how to lead. Most touching of all, Jeor gives Jon the Valyrian sword that was part of House Mormont for generations, proving he sees Jon as a son in many ways.
Grenn
When Jon arrives at Castle Black and begins training, it is quite clear he is the best fighter in the Night's Watch recruits. This results in him breaking Grenn's nose and Grenn attempting to beat Jon up in retaliation. Despite this rough beginning, they become very close friends.
Jon helps to train Grenn to be a better fighter while Grenn sees Jon as a leader worth following. They share the same heroic spirit and, quite sadly, it is Jon who tasks Grenn with protecting the tunnel when the Wildlings attack which leads to Grenn's death.
Eddison Tollett
Edd is yet another member of the Night's Watch who becomes close to Jon over time. Edd is an entertaining side character with his pessimistic view and his sarcastic sense of humor. But he is also someone who follows Jon no matter what.
When Jon suggests they let the Wildlings past the Wall, Edd objects as they killed many of their friends. Yet he is still right by Jon's side when they head to Hardhome to rescue the remaining Wildlings.
Davos Seaworth
Though Davos is a loyal follower of Stannis Baratheon in the beginning, he seems to be a much better fit as Jon Snow's right-hand man. Even before ing Jon, Davos gives him advice about helping to free the North from the Boltons.
It is Davos who convinces Melisandre to bring Jon back after he is assassinated and he doesn't hesitate to follow him into battle against Ramsay Bolton. Davos stays by Jon's side from that point on, seeing him as the leader he hoped Stannis would have been.
Ghost
After being introduced in the very first episode, the direwolves become an important part of the Starks' lives. For Jon, he raises Ghost, the white wolf, as his own and has him by his side through many of his adventures.
Ghost stands up for Jon as well as those close to Jon, even taking out some of his enemies, like Rast. As the series continued, Ghost is pushed more to the background, but the final scene of the show sees Jon and Ghost reuniting and starting their next adventure together.
Tormund Giantsbane
The friendship between Jon and Tormund is one of the most unexpected in Game of Thrones. Though he likes Jon from the beginning, he doesn't hesitate to try to kill him when he is revealed to still be loyal to the Night's Watch.
However, when Jon risks his life to save the Wildlings at Hardhome, he earns Tormund's respect. When Jon is assassinated, Tormund leads the Wildlings against the Night's Watch traitors. He also s in the Battle of the Bastards and his adventure Beyond the Wall. And in the finale, when Jon is disgraced, Tormund welcomes him back like an old friend.
Samwell Tarly
When Sam arrives at Castle Black, he is immediately insulted and mistreated by the others. It is only Jon who is willing to stand up to him and protect him from the others. While Sam might not be the best fighter, he also helps Jon out however he can.
After learning of Ned Stark's death, Jon leaves Castle Black to Robb's army. But it is Sam who reminds Jon of his duty and convinces him to return to the Night's Watch. Sam also nominates Jon as Lord Commander while Jon convinces Sam to become a maester.
