Who died in the Last War of Arya Stark killing the Night King, Daenerys Targaryen has turned her attention to King's Landing and ripping Cersei Lannister "root and stem" from the Iron Throne. Unfortunately, the Dragon Queen once again underestimated Cersei and paid dearly for it.

In last week's episode "The Last of the Starks", Jon Snow marched the Northern army south to the capital while Daenerys sailed her forces back to Dragonstone - and right into an ambush by Euron Greyjoy's Iron Fleet. The pirate king Tyrion then told Varys, who is now convinced Jon Snow is a better option to sit upon the Iron Throne than Daenerys, whom he fears will be a Mad Queen. "The Last of the Starks" ended with a face-off between Cersei and Daenerys' reduced forces at King's Landing's gate; despite Tyrion's last-ditch pleas to his sister, Cersei had Missandei beheaded.

In the penultimate episode of Game of Thrones, "The Bells", despite her mercenary army, the Golden Company, and the Lannister Army armed with scorpions to slay Daenerys' last dragon defending Cersei's claim to the Iron Throne, the Last War ended decisively for Daenerys. Thanks mostly to the brutal carnage unleashed by the Dragon Queen and Drogon's dragonfire that massacred thousands of people in the Red Keep, here are the major characters who died in "The Bells":

Varys was executed by Daenerys via Drogon's dragonfire for treason. Varys plotted against her by Game of Thrones season 7.

Harry Strickland and the Golden Company were also wiped out by Drogon's flames right after Daenerys had burned the ships of Euron Greyjoy's Iron Fleet and eliminated the scorpions defending the city. Even if Captain Strickland had brought elephants like Cersei wanted, it wouldn't have made a difference.

Euron Greyjoy died after Jaime Lannister ran him through with his sword after a brutal fight. Euron stabbed the Kingslayer several times and boasted "I killed Jaime Lannister!" before he expired, but sadly for Euron, that wouldn't be the case.

Qyburn was killed by The Mountain as he tried to convince the massive zombie knight to protect Cersei. The Mountain easily crushed Qyburn's skull, showing no gratitude to the maester who resurrected him.

The Hound Sandor Clegane and The Mountain Gregor Clegane finally had the Game of Thrones season 4. After stabbing his brother in the head, Sandor charged at Gregor and they both plummeted into the flames below.

Jaime Lannister and Cersei Lannister perished together in the dungeons of the Red Keep where the skulls of the ancient Targaryen dragons were kept. Jaime returned to King's Landing for his sweet sister, who pleaded not to let their baby die. But with the exits sealed off with rubble, the castle crumbled on top of their heads, killing both Jaime and Cersei (and their child).

Along with those characters, tens of thousands died, mostly thanks to Daenerys and Drogon burning the entire city. Despite the Lannister Army's surrender, Grey Worm led the attack that slaughtered those soldiers, while countless men, women in children died by dragonfire or other means, like the Dothraki rampaging through the streets. The unspeakable destruction points to what Tyrion and others dreaded: that Daenerys has become a Mad Queen who will rule through fear and destruction, which is something both Jon Snow and Arya Stark are poised to do something about in the series finale of Game of Thrones.
