It's official, Gears of War: E-Day prequel, have been products of The Coalition, part of Xbox Game Studios.
Announced via Xbox Wire and even the official PlayStation Twitter , Gears of War: Reloaded sees the original title from 2006 remastered for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is releasing on August 26, 2025, priced at $39.99 and coming to Game Ultimate and PC Game on day one. Gears Of War: Reloaded Remasters The Original Game For PS5, Among Other Platforms
You're Going To Like It On Sera, They Put Chainsaws On Guns
Gears of War: Reloaded takes the series' progenitor and remasters it in 4K for all ed platforms. Its campaign is targeting 60fps, while multiplayer aims for 120fps. It will feature HDR, 7.1 surround sound and spatial audio, variable refresh rate, remastered textures, improved lighting and shadows, better visual effects and improved anti-aliasing, and has completely eliminated load screens from the campaign. A Microsoft is not required to play online, though having one will enable players to send friend invites cross-platform and carry their progress over to a different console.
The original Gears sees players take control of Marcus Fenix (and Dominic Santiago in co-op) 14 years after Emergence Day, which marked the beginning of a campaign of annihilation by underground creatures known as the Locust. Humans on the planet Sera are now in a seemingly endless war of attrition against the horde. The third-person, cover-based shooter is known for its exceptional violence, most famously a result of the Lancer, an assault rifle with a chainsaw mounted under the barrel, which lets players bloodily tear Locust soldiers in twain.
Gears of War has been an Xbox flagship since its inception, arguably only behind Halo in its prominence within the brand. Reloaded marks the first time Gears is playable on PlayStation. Leaks had indicated a remastered collection is on the way, with a planned reveal at 2025's Xbox Games Showcase, which is set for June. This has not yet been confirmed, but if it turns out to be true, it could potentially bring more Gears titles to PlayStation.
With Gears On PlayStation, It's Only A Matter Of Time Until Halo Hits PS5
Marcus Fenix & Master Chief On PlayStation Feels Weird
Gears of War: Reloaded feels like just the most recent domino to fall in the ongoing end of Xbox console exclusivity. With Forza Horizon 5 dominating PlayStation Store charts already, it feels like the floodgates are open, and there's only one major franchise left to make the jump: Halo. Gears is important to the Xbox brand, and certainly helped the 360 generation, but Halo is practically sacred. It revolutionized first-person shooters in 2001 and has continued to be Xbox's highest-profile franchise.
Ever since Xbox began its process of inclusivity with Pentiment, Grounded, Hi-Fi Rush, and Sea of Thieves, rumors of Halo arriving on PlayStation have been swirling. Nothing has come to fruition so far, but Gears' arrival is a major step in showing that likely no exclusives are off the table. Halo fans and PlayStation s have been clamoring for The Master Chief collection to be ported to the PS5. If that were to happen, or if any more Gears of War games are making the transition like the leaks claim, they would most likely be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in June.
