Magic: The Gathering designers. The designer, Tyler Bielman, has been working in the entertainment industry for more than 20 years and at one point in time was the Creative Director of Magic: The Gathering. There is currently no concrete release date for the Gears of War card game.
The Gears of War games, while still popular, are leagues away from their Gears of War 5 outsold 4 by quite a bit, largely thanks to being offered on Xbox Games . The move to make a card game for the series seems timed to coincide with the fact that the franchise is more relevant now than it has been for years.
Kotaku has announced that the Gears of War card game will be releasing at some point later this year. The new game has been designed from the ground up by Bielman who will be bringing his years of Magic: The Gathering experience to the table. The game will apparently be story driven, where each drawn card influences what actions and cards players can use. Additionally players can choose to play as both the Coalition and the Horde.
It should be interesting the see a new card game that is similar to Magic: The Gathering. Most of the time Magic just crosses over with other properties. Just a few weeks Wizards of The Coast announced that D&D decided to adopt the Ravnica setting into the massively popular tabletop RPG.
Fans of both Gears of War and Magic: The Gathering should be extremely excited by this new game. This will give many people a chance to reintroduce themselves to the Gears world, or take a break from the extremely complicated Magic. Additionally, the Gears of War game could be a way to bring new players to card games. It will be very interesting to see what reception looks like when the Gears of War card game releases later this year.
