Gemini are curious about the unknown, always pining after new information, experiences, and adventures to simulate their constantly sprinting minds. Therefore, the science fiction genre naturally has a lot to offer a Gemini audience in of cinema.

That being said, sci-fi is a broad and sometimes polarizing category. Some science fiction is harder than others; Some take place across the depths of space while others are comfortably confound to our humble planet; and some dabble on the edges of fantasy or action when finding their generic footing. Gemini may like science fiction in general, but there is variation within that preference. Here are five sci-fi movies that Gemini will love, and five others that they will hate.

Love: 2001: A Space Odyssey

2001 Red Helmet

In general, Gemini appreciate intellectual movies. 2001: A Space Odyssey is perhaps the epitome of smart, layered cinema. The movie created a new kind of sci-fi in 1968, breaking away from the B-Movie standard and establishing the genre as something capable of philosophical conversation. Gemini will appreciate the masterpiece's motley and symbolic story of human evolution, technological dangers, and divine mysteries dwelling in the depths of the universe. 2001 is probably a Gemini's favorite sci-fi movie, and quite possibly his or her favorite movie of all time.

Hate: Alien

The Gemini element is air. Thus, Alien might be a bit too uncomfortable for them to fully appreciate. The horror sci-fi hybrid classic takes place aboard a single spaceship floating through the cosmos' silent ether while an invasive extraterrestrial gets loose and takes out crew one by one. All throughout the film, there is nowhere for the characters to run or hide in their treacherously tight environment. It lives up to the famously eerie tagline "In Space No One Can Hear You Scream," which in essence, is a Gemini's worst nightmare.

Love: Interstellar

Astronauts on the water planet in Interstellar

Like Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, stimulating questions that Interstellar raises about the universe, it also offers some of the most breathtaking visuals of any science fiction movie to date, depicting distant planets and celestial phenomena in a stunningly realistic way that will surely excite a Gemini's taste for adventure.

Hate: Source Code

claustrophobic environments. Thus, despite all of Source Code's redeeming qualities , its particular form and setting may distance the Gemini demographic a bit too far.

Love: The Matrix

The Matrix Neo

As referenced above, Gemini are fascinated with the unknown, and the Wachowski sibling's 1999 holds up to this day with its reality defying narrative, action-packed suspense, and copious philosophical queries. Gemini will relish in peeling back The Matrix's many layers, questioning its relevancy in the real world, and contemplating its various meanings. Simultaneously, they will find themselves entranced with the film's fast-paced plot and relentlessly high-stakes adventure. Like Neo, Gemini won't hesitate in taking the red pill and digging as far down The Matrix's rabbit hole as it can take them.

Hate: Star Trek: The Motion Picture

There is an abundance of television episodes that reveal exotic new planets or deal with heavy questions grounded in hard science.

Unfortunately, the Star Trek movies usually forgo these stimulating elements for more blockbuster style sci-fi action. The franchise's debut film, 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture is no exception. Usually, traversing the final frontier aboard the Enterprise would be a dream come true for a Gemini. Sadly, the best Star Trek adventures are better suited for the TV shows rather than the movies.

Love: Cloud Atlas

Hate: Star Wars

While the Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope) is pretty universally appreciated. Still, a few outliers exist who do not like the movie, and odds are, they might be Gemini.

While Gemini will surely appreciate Star Wars' dense galaxy far far away setting, the movie follows a strikingly straightforward mythos. Some even deem Star Wars not sci-fi at all, but fantasy that just so happens to take place in space. Gemini might agree with that controversial sentiment, for they usually prefer more grounded reality and hard scientific rationales when it comes to sci-fi.

Love: Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal Dragon

Gemini are proudly weird and have strange senses of humor. Thus, the 1981 sci-fi cult-classic Heavy Metal might fit their esoteric tastes. The Gerald Potterton directed flick is an adult animation anthology riddled with  sex, violence, and a soundtrack featuring Black Sabbath, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar, and Stevie Nicks amongst many others. It also has the standard sci-fi elements of space battles, dystopian cities, and a plot centered around a sacred crystal that controls all evils in the world. The movie is an under appreciated gem, and it sports the exact kind of quirkiness that Gemini will get a good laugh out of.

Hate: 12 Monkeys

12 Monkeys Bruce Willis Brad Pitt

Conceptually, Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys is the kind of movie that a Gemini will appreciate. It handles time travel, metaphysics, and quasi-dystopian themes quite intelligently. However, it also moves at a near glacial pace and doesn't quite deliver the payoff that audiences might anticipate. The movie is entirely earthbound and despite the dystopian TV show spinoff will be more to their liking.
