There have been new leaks about the rumored weekly boss in Great Volcano of Tollan subregion in Genshin Impact, which contains a World Quest series.

Even though players still have a lot of content to go through, the Version 5.6 beta tests have started and, with them, details about the patch are arising. So far, there have been substantial leaks about one of the new playable characters, Escoffier, who is rumored to be a 5-star Cryo sub-DPS, as well as the possible character banners in Version 5.6. There have also been a few leaks about a possible new weekly boss in Genshin Impact 5.6, who may be part of Mondstadt rather than Natlan or even Fontaine – Escoffier is said to be from Fontaine.

The original leaks mentioned that Version 5.6 would see a new weekly boss fight introduced within the region of Mondstadt and that it was inspired by chess figures. However, new details have arisen. According to information provided by the leaker known as HomDGCat, the new weekly boss Trounce Domain will be called Game Before The Gate. The leak was shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit. As seen in the leak, which essentially confirms the previous rumors, players will face a King Piece and a Queen Piece in Genshin Impact, both of whom’s inspirations are drawn from chess.

Genshin Impact 5.6’s character banner lineup may have leaked, hinting at two new characters and promising rerun choices for team comps.

According to the leak, the rumored boss will be split into two phases. The first phase will see you facing both the King and Queen Pieces, and, during this phase, you will first need to take out the King, followed by the Queen. This should trigger the second phase. As seen in the leak, you will then need to face the Ascended King and Sublimated Queen at the same time and, preferably, try to take down both opponents simultaneously or within a short window, as the defeated Piece may be revived or buff the other one’s DMG in Genshin Impact.

Cryo Should Be Indispensible Against Genshin Impact 5.6's Leaked Weekly Boss

The Boss Is Rumored To Instantly Defeat The Active Character

While the revival and buffing mechanics are dangerous, even without knowing their actual stats, the leak shows another aspect of the fight that is a lot more daunting. According to HomDGCat, this rumored weekly boss fight in Version 5.6 has a special Ultimate ability. This Ultimate is said to instantly defeat the active character on the field, completely ignoring any shields they may have and even their Elemental Burst Invincibility. There is, however, a supposed way of countering this attack – or, at least, the lethal damage that it is rumored to deal in Genshin Impact.

For reference, when using a Burst, characters often become invulnerable, which can be used as a measure to avoid most attacks and, subsequently, any incoming damage.

As seen in the leak, while the Ultimate is being charged, players will need to charge a Progress Bar to stop the rumored boss’s Ultimate attack. According to the leak, this Progress Bar can only be charged by dealing Cryo DMG to the opponent. Furthermore, extra Progress can allegedly be obtained when players trigger Freeze Reactions on the boss, which should incentivize the usage of perma-freeze team comps, such as those led by Wriothesley or Ganyu. Contrarily, dealing Pyro DMG will make the player lose extra Progress, which should make using Arlecchino and Mavuika in Genshin Impact a lot tougher.

It seems like Cryo will need to be at the forefront of team comps during the fight. This does not necessarily mean that other elements, including Pyro, won’t be usable against the boss, but because the rumored Ultimate is capable of fully eliminating the active character, regardless of their Max HP, shields, or Burst Invincibility, it’s best to ensure that the Progress Bar reaches its full charge, and that can only be done by using Cryo DMG. It seems unlikely that only off-field Cryo application will be enough, so players may need to use multiple Cryo characters in Genshin Impact.

Cryo Is At The Forefront Of Genshin Impact 5.6, Beyond The Weekly Boss

Escoffier & The Leaked World Boss Are Also Rumored To Be Centered Around Cryo

The rumored weekly boss’s Ultimate doesn’t seem like a coincidence. It may be a deliberate choice to complement the developer’s push toward a long-awaited Cryo meta. Cryo is seemingly necessary to beat the leaked weekly boss from Mondstadt, and also the new world boss in Natlan. According to the leaks about the new world boss from Genshin Impact 5.6, players will be able to obstruct the opponent’s increasing DMG buff, called Flow Momentum, by hitting it with Cryo attacks. This mechanic seems to rely less on Cryo DMG, like the weekly boss, and more on the number of Cryo hits.

I Really Hope Genshin Impact's Skirk Isn't A Cryo DPS

Leaks and speculation indicate that Skirk will be a Cryo DPS in Genshin Impact upon her release, but I truly hope she takes on another role.

These two bosses’ alleged Cryo counters already represent some investment toward the usage of Cryo, but even more of a push toward the Cryo meta may be applied with Version 5.6. As was previously mentioned, Escoffier is confirmed to be a 5-star Cryo character, but her release alone doesn’t say much. However, the leaks about Escoffier’s kit in Genshin Impact 5.6 indicate she will be a Cryo sub-DPS and . Currently, there aren’t many off-field Cryo sub-DPS units to use with Cryo DPS characters like Wriothesley and Ganyu, so her release may be a way of compensating for that absence.

With all of this, the game seems to be headed into a Cryo-centered period, which is long overdue. Cryo has been undervalued for a long time and despite powerful DPS characters like Wriothesley and s like Citlali, the game has been lacking more options. In addition to what is rumored to arrive in Version 5.6, there are also leaks about the possible release of Skirk in Version 5.7, and based on her status, it’s likely that she will be a powerful DPS unit, too, only reinforcing the rumors about the Cryo meta period in Genshin Impact.
