$60 million in it's first week just off mobile sales alone. Genshin Impact first released on the PlayStation 4, PC, and mobile devices, but there are plans to expand the game onto other consoles. A Switch port of the game has already been confirmed, while plans of moving Genshin Impact to next-gen consoles are currently in development. Unfortunately for Xbox fans, the indie RPG won't be making its way to the Xbox Series X. Or at least, not yet.

IGN Japan had the chance to speak with a MiHoYo spokesperson about the developers plans for Genshin Impact moving forward. The spokesperson described Genshin Impact as a live service game, as MiHoYo will continue developing Genshin Impact over time, adding new content and gameplay while also updating and optimizing the game. While nothing is planned for the immediate future, MiHoYo has big things in store for Genshin Impact like new characters, a new city, and additional side quests. MiHoYo is inviting the Genshin Impact community to be vocal about the changes they wish to see in the game, as player will play a huge factor in ongoing development.

Along with future plans for Genshin Impact's development, the MiHoYo spokesperson also talked to Genshin Impact will find its way onto, but they did specifically mention the one it won't making its way to: the Xbox. There wasn't any reasoning given, but the spokesperson explicitly said, "We currently don't have any plans for an Xbox version of the game."

Will Genshin Impact Eventually Be Available On Xbox?

Genshin Impact

It's difficult to tell why MiHoYo doesn't plan on Genshin Impact on the Xbox Series X. Perhaps it has something to do with Xbox' poor track record in the east, as the Xbox One solid particularly bad in Japan. Or maybe MiHoYo has a deal with Sony, seeing as the game currently runs on the PlayStation 4 and comes with exclusive bonuses as opposed to other versions of the game. It's tough to figure any one specific reason apart from the developer's vague statement of disinterest, which, honestly, should give Xbox fans a little bit of hope. When mentioning MiHoYo's plans for moving Genshin Impact to next-gen consoles, the spokesperson said they "currently" didn't have any plans. Seeing as MiHoYo has plans to continue adding new content and updating the game, there's a chance Genshin Impact could make its way onto Xbox at some point later down the line.

Perhaps MiHoYo is simply waiting to see how the Xbox Series X sells before they commit to developing Genshin Impact for the console. If the Series X does manage to sell well in Japan, then chances are Genshin Impact could make its way to the Microsoft console after all. It is already available on Microsoft Windows, so an eventual move to the Xbox doesn't seem totally far fetched. For now, Xbox fans will just have to play the waiting game and hope MiHoYo has an eventual change of plans. For everyone else, Genshin Impact is currently available and free to play on PlayStation 4, PC, Android, and IOS.
