His most successful franchise remains the Resident Evil movies. Anderson directed four out of six installments while writing and producing all of them. The series wrapped up with Monster Hunter, with the aim of turning it into a long-running franchise.

In a new interview with The Hindu, Anderson revealed he’s currently developing a George R.R. Martin adaptation too, stating “I’ve also been a huge fan of George RR Martin’s work, and there is a series of short stories written by him that I am working on, which will hopefully come to fruition soon.”
Sadly Anderson didn’t offer any clues to what the project might be, but his actress wife Milla Jovovich previously signed up for a movie based on Martin short stories called In The Lost Lands. In The Lost Lands told three interconnected tales focusing on female warriors. The first tale has a queen hiring a sorceress – the part Jovovich was earmarked for – to travel to a wasteland to obtain the gift of shapeshifting. The other two stories focused on a warrior fighting a dragon to save her lover, and a barbarian girl who gets seduced by a witch with a spacecraft.
In The Lost Lands was due to co-star Justin Chatwin (Shameless) and be directed by Constantin Werner from his own screenplay. The movie was set to begin filming near the end of 2015, but nothing has been heard of the project since, so it’s possible Anderson took over development in the intervening years.
Despite the runaway success of Game of Thrones, it’s strange other production companies haven’t rushed out to secure rights to Martin’s other works. That said, Syfy is currently working on a large scale adaptation of Martin’s novella Nightfliers, which was previously turned into a movie in 1987. The 10-episode series follows a group of scientists on a mission to explore an alien ship, only for very bad things to happen.
With Game of Thrones set to finish in 2019, there will likely be a group of projects looking to fill the gap based on Martin’s work, with Nightfliers and Anderson’s untitled project being two examples. Whether they have the same lasting impact is another story.
