Steve Holland comments on Mary's possible bigger role in Young Sheldon’s finale, this follow-up follows the couple's married life, albeit with involvement from the remaing Texas-based Coopers.
In an interview with ’s season 1 ending proves the show is in no rush to cover the titular pair's inevitable divorce, it can tackle other stories. Read Holland's full quote below:
“We’re pretty happy with the way the balance worked out this season… It was always our goal to make this show feel like its own thing, and still get to use those characters from Young Sheldon that we love… We still want to keep the focus on the Georgie & Mandy cast, but obviously, we love having all of them there. But Zoe, especially, is now a part of this story and a part of the store moving forward, so we’ll be seeing her."

The majority of season 1 centered on Mandy’s struggle to find work and Georgie’s attempts to balance living with the McAllisters and working at her father’s tire store. In Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage episode 22, “Big Decisions,” Georgie bought the tire store with the help of his colleague Ruben and his mother. Mary co-signed Georgie’s bank loan, putting the Cooper family home up as collateral to prove she believed in him. As such, Holland is right to say that Mary’s role is now naturally set to grow going forward.

More importantly, Mary putting her home on the line raises the stakes of Georgie’s story in Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage season 2, which may finally explain the Young Sheldon spinoff’s big breakup.
