Despite Get Out in 2017. Starring Nope's Daniel Kaluuya, the film became an instant classic for its outstanding blending of biting satire and thrilling scares. Yet, for all its success, revisiting the movie would be disastrous, both for Peele and for Get Out's legacy.
After finishing Get Out, Jordan Peele released his sophomore directorial effort in 2019, alternate Get Out endings where Chris loses.
Thankfully, Peele decided against using these endings in the final film, and Get Out is all the better for it with its ultimately victorious conclusion. Although Jordan Peele has consistently teased the possibility of making a sequel to Get Out, continuing the story would put the original at huge risk of becoming retroactively weaker. Get Out's ending was not only definitive to the story but one of the best scenes in a modern horror movie. A sequel could only jeopardize and undermine the power of that ending which would be a huge mistake.
Will Get Out 2 Actually Happen?
Looking at Peele's filmography, the likelihood of Get Out receiving a sequel is also looking less likely than ever. In the five years since its release, Jordan Peele has directed nothing but original stories to both commercial and critical acclaim. and Get Out's differences make Peele an exciting director to follow as audiences do not know what to expect which each new film of his. This is a trend that looks to continue with Nope.
Peele has sold himself as a filmmaker that tells new stories and making a sequel to Get Out would not only be a mistake for his career but would also only ruin the original film's fantastic ending. Part of what made Get Out such a startling success was its originality. Jeopardizing this aspect of the movie for the sake of a potential Get Out 2 is a risk that simply isn't worth taking, especially with other original projects like Nope on the horizon.
