The forthcoming multiplayer mode for Sucker Punch's best-selling PS4 game in Japan.

One month after Ghost of Tsushima's release, Sucker Punch announced Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a two-to-four-person, class-based co-op mode. Players can choose one of four character classes (the Samurai, Hunter, Assassin, or Ronin) each of which will have unique, currently unannounced abilities. The DLC ditches the main game's realistic setting for a mythologic version of Japan, swapping human enemies for supernaturally powered Oni. Legends will include several story-based co-op missions, a wave-based survival mode, and a raid.

After speaking with a Playstation representative, IGN confirmed that the DLC will not include microtransactions and that the studio has "absolutely no plans to add them." All unlockable content in Legends can be acquired by playing the game. The mode will be free for anyone who already owns the game and will release later this year.

Unlike the mythologically inspired DLC, the core of Ghost of Tsushima is lightly based on real Japanese history and heavily inspired by classic samurai epics. The story follows Jin Sakai, a disgraced samurai who must leave his honorable teachings behind to defeat Khotun Khan, the fictional grandson of Genghis Khan. Jin traverses the beautifully rendered island of Tsushima, hunting down countless collectibles, basking in the visual splendor, and helping those he meets along the way. Though Jin dispatches his foes with supernatural competence, the single-player experience is grounded in a reality closer to our own, something the DLC dispatches in favor of a new fantastical setting.

New content, especially free new content, for a lauded recent release, is cause enough for celebration. But Sucker Punch and Sony's decision to keep Ghost of Tsushima: Legends microtransaction-free is a small, but no less pleasant victory against the Ghost of Tsushima experts a reason to return while giving hold-outs another reason to dive in.
