Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a free multiplayer PvE experience coming to the game.

Needless to say, it's not something anyone expected, and it'll be interesting to see how the game implements co-op systems. It also raises questions on what other kinds of multiplayer might work in Ghost of Tsushima.

Duels show Ghost of Tsushima's gameplay at its very best, but there's only a handful of them featured in the story, and it'd be fantastic to see them featured in another way. Ghost of Tsushima needs a 1vs1 multiplayer duel system.

Ghost of Tsushima's Duels Would Work Wonders in Multiplayer

Ghost of Tsushima - Deadly Pose

Duels work so well in Ghost of Tsushima because they focus in on the game's core gameplay mechanics, and keep it simple. Duels are challenging, and one false move can allow the opponent to take off a huge chunk of the player's health. Imagine how much more intense duels could be when it's two players up against each other, although the systems might need to be changed up a little bit.

Ghost of Tsushima could rework its different stances into a multiplayer system, where certain stances have an advantage over others, and it's up to players to read their opponent. Another game to use as an example would be For Honor, which has a fairly dynamic dueling system. In For Honor players have to adjust their stance constantly and try to counter their opponent's stance. Ghost of Tsushima already has all of those elements in place, it'd just take some small changes to make it all work in a multiplayer system. The duels in the game already put a huge emphasis on proper timing, and that'd be even more important in a multiplayer match.

A dueling system, just like co-op, also allows Sucker Punch to double down on cosmetics. Ghost of Tsushima already features a wealth of weapon skins and outfits, but adding multiplayer gives an opportunity for players to create their own samurai. It'll be interesting to see how PvE plays out in Ghost of Tsushima, but it seems a shame to stop there.

Ghost of Tsushima is currently available on PS4.
