Throughout Mongol forces currently invading Tsushima. For many of the side quests involving Ishikawa, it remains a mystery why the female student betrayed her master, and in the end, the reason may surprise players.

Jin initially tracks down Ishikawa to request his help in saving Lord Shimura and re-taking the island of Tsushima. He also wants to know why the sensei wasn’t present for the battle at Komoda Beach. Ishikawa initially lies and says he was attacked by raiders before he could make it to the battle. In exchange for fighting alongside Jin, he makes the samurai promise to help hunt down Tomoe, who he says ed the Mongols once the invasion started.

Ishikawa and Jin quickly find a camp with proof that the Mongols originally had captured Tomoe but then let her go after she began teaching them the art of her bow. This gives the duo even more incentive to track down the talented archer, since she appears to be sharing samurai secrets with the Mongols, which could be fatal for the island of Tsushima.

What Did Sensei Ishikawa Do To Tomoe in Ghost of Tsushima?

After leaving the camp, Jin pushes Ishikawa for further information about what happened between him and his former student. The sensei its it wasn’t raiders who left him bloodied when Jin found him. Rather, he reveals that Tomoe had attacked him. Ishikawa said he pushed her too hard, making her turn on him.

Jin appears a bit skeptical of the tale, but after spending more time with the sensei throughout Ghost of Tushima's story, he starts to see the harsher side of Ishikawa. However, Jin later encounters Tomoe face-to-face, and she paints a bit of a different picture. Before she dramatically leaps off a cliff, the archer says her sensei tried to kill her, arguing he was the first to betray her, not the other way around. Afterwards, Ishikawa its to Jin that he did try killing Tomoe, but only after she learned she was in cahoots with a group of bandits, and death is the crime for common criminals, he reasoned. Jin is surprised by the answer, but seems to accept it.

It may still seem strange that the dispute between Tomoe and her sensei led her to the Mongols, given the destruction they were causing to Tsushima. But, once the duo catches up to Tomoe, she insists she was trying to prevent the Mongols from killing more people by intervening and gaining their trust. This revelation leads Jin to allow the former student to leave unscathed, and following her final appearance, Tomoe’s fate is left up in the air. Tomoe may have had justification to be upset with Sensei Ishikawa in Ghost of Tsushima, but it’s up to players to decide if it was reason enough to the Mongols.
