Warning: Some SPOILERS lie ahead for Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Sony releases the Paul Feig's female-fronted 2016 reboot after its poor box office and audience reception. The film hails from co-writer/director Jason Reitman, son of original director and producer Ivan, and Gil Kenan.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife centers on single mother Callie and her two children, Phoebe and Trevor, as they are evicted and must move to a small Oklahoma town to inherit their grandfather's decayed farmhouse. Upon arriving, Phoebe and Trevor learn their grandfather to have been Egon Spengler and of his legacy as a Ghostbuster, as well as his investigation into a local mine with ties to the Manhattan Crossrip of 1984. Mckenna Grace and Finn Wolfhard lead the cast of Ghostbusters: Afterlife alongside fellow franchise newcomers Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Logan Kim and Celeste O'Connor and returning stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts and Sigourney Weaver.

To celebrate the film coming home on VOD platforms, Sony has released the Ghostbusters: Afterlife first 10 minutes for free on YouTube. The opening of the movie sees a mysterious figure fleeing from an invisible threat through the small Oklahoma town with a used ghost trap in his possession, as well as Phoebe and her family moving into their newly inherited decayed farmhouse. The mysterious figure seen in Ghostbusters: Afterlife's first 10 minutes would ultimately be revealed to be Egon Spengler, with Bob Gunton and Ivan Reitman serving as body doubles for the late Harold Ramis. The film saw a largely divided response from critics in regards to its fan service, though the inclusion of a digitally recreated Ramis has been the biggest point of division amongst both reviewers and audiences alike. While most have appreciated the emotional intention behind the character's appearance, some have found it to be a bit off-putting, much in the same vein of Peter Cushing and Carrie Fisher's digitally recreated appearances in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Those who haven't seen the film just yet may find Ghostbusters: Afterlife's opening 10 minutes to be an interesting draw in finally giving the sequel a watch. Between Rob Simonsen's score wonderfully homaging the music of the original films to the genuinely terrifying nature of the threat in the opening scene and the charming introduction to Egon's descendants, there is a lot for audiences to connect to in the start. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is now available on VOD and is set to hit shelves on 4K Ultra-HD, Blu-ray and DVD on February 1.
