Ghostbusters actor Ernie Hudson reveals what excites him about getting to play Winston Zeddemore in future sequels. The first Ghostbusters movie, released in 1984, was a big hit with audiences, introducing Bill Murray's Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd's Ray Stantz, the late Harold Ramis' Egon Spengler, and Hudson's Zeddemore. The actors would reprise their roles for Ghostbusters 2 in 1989 and most recently appeared (except for Ramis) in last year's Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Following the generally positive reception to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it's been confirmed that Ghostbusters 4 from director Jason Reitman is in the works, although little is officially known about the sequel's plot or cast.
In a recent interview with the Ghostbusters 4, there's a very specific reason why he's looking forward to playing the character once more. Check out Hudson's full comment below when asked if he would be interested in bringing Zeddemore back in a "proper way" for another Ghostbusters movie.
“If “proper” means being well paid, yes I do. I love Ghostbusters, I love Winston Zeddemore, and in the movie he’s a billionaire now so that makes me very excited.”
What Role Could Winston Play In Ghostbusters Sequels
In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Zeddemore is revealed to now be a wealthy entrepreneur, and the movie ends with him purchasing the old Ghostbusters firehouse in New York City. The final scene in the movie features the red light on the ecto-containment unit flashing red, hinting at what could be to come in Reitman's sequel. It's still unclear which original cast may be returning in Ghostbusters 4, but Hudson has previously revealed that he's read a script for the movie, suggesting he will be involved in some capacity.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife largely es the torch to newcomers like Paul Rudd's Gary, Mckenna Grace's Phoebe, Finn Wolfhaard's Trevor, Logan Kim's Podcast, and Carrie Coon's Callie, suggesting that, if Hudson, Murray, and Aykroyd do return for Ghostbusters 4, it might be in more of a mentorship capacity. The 3 original actors returned at the very end of Ghostbusters: Afterlife to help Phoebe and Trevor defeat Gozer, which could be indicative of the more limited, ing roles they could play in the future. Even if Ghostbusters 4 puts the focus mainly on Phoebe and the other new characters, the franchise's return to New York City and Zeddemore's purchasing of the old firehouse hint that fans haven't seen the last of the original characters just yet.
It's unclear if there will be another Ghostbusters movie after Reitman's sequel, but the film's box office will be the major deciding factor. While Hudson and Aykroyd may continue to appear in future franchise installments, Murray's recent controversies, in which numerous actors have accused him of misconduct, may impact whether fans see Peter Venkman in Ghostbusters 4 and beyond. Many questions remain about how the original characters will be handled in future Ghostbusters movies, but Hudson is evidently excited to more fully explore Zeddemore now that he's a wealthy entrepreneur.
