What This Means For The Ghosts Franchise
Expect A Return To A More British Sense Of Humor
One of the things that differentiates American remakes of British IPs - The Office being a great example - is the difference in humor, as well as what lands and what doesn't. With the Australian remake of Ghosts, audiences should expect a return to a more British style of humor, and it will be interesting to see how this plays on streaming and how successful the show can wind up being. Australian comedy is a hot property right now, with the hit series Colin From s receiving a renewal, and Ghosts Australia is set to widen its appeal.
This is definitely a remake that feels a little bit superfluous, but with Australian comedy on the rise, it's a safe angle into a global streaming market.
The show has a strong cast in place that could rival the British and US versions and a creative team in place to craft a balanced and hilarious comedy show. Much like the US Ghosts based characters on the UK version, the same is likely to be true with the Australian version, though there will also probably be some differences as well. Making the series more equipped for the Australian market will be a challenge, but the show certainly has the right people in place to make this happen.
Our Take On The Australian Remake Of Ghosts
It Doesn't Feel Like The Franchise Needs This Remake, But It Could Work Out
Ghosts is clearly a successful franchise that is attracting interest from an international fanbase, and, much like The Office, is now set to have a British, American, and Australian version. This is definitely a remake that feels a little bit superfluous, but with Australian comedy on the rise, it's a safe angle into a global streaming market. There is certainly potential here for a strong series and shows like Ghosts have a good track record for long-term success, so it will be interesting to see how the Australian version performs.
