When CBS’s The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts come from a diverse range of historical periods and each of them brings a unique perspective to the Woodstone B&B. That said, some invariably seem to receive more screen time than others. Sometimes this adds up, since certain characters have powers that make them more relevant more often. Pete’s ability to leave the mansion allows him to Sam and Jay on errands.

This means that plots like Sam and Jay attempting to unearth Isaac’s diary from a historical site can only involve Pete and not the rest of the cast. However, other characters receive more of the limelight with less justification. Ghosts season 4’s Isaac story has centered on the biography that he co-authored with Sam, his breakup with Nigel in the season 3 finale, and his relationship with the troubled Puritan ghost Patience. In contrast, Flower hasn’t even been seen in numerous season 4 episodes, and characters like Hetty and Thor have largely been relegated to the background.

Isaac Fixed His Friendship With His Former Fiancée In Episode 7

As of season 4, episode 7, “Sad Farnsby,” Ghosts season 4 is officially focusing on Isaac over the rest of the ghosts. This outing saw Sam and Jay’s neighbor, Mr. Farnsby, attempt to sabotage the construction of Jay’s restaurant. This resulted in Sam accidentally breaking the couple up when she tried to have Ms. Farnsby over for drinks. Although Ghosts season 4’s hiatus means the sitcom has only aired seven episodes in the weeks since the outing began, it is still notable that this episode’s B-story centered on Isaac rekindling his friendship with his former fiancée Nigel.

Isaac was the main focus of season 4, episode 1, “Patience,” as he attempted to escape the Puritan and then wrestled with whether to save her from “The dirt."

Nigel and Isaac’s romance was central to season 3’s overarching story, and Isaac’s decision to leave Nigel at the altar came as a surprise in the season 3 finale. What has since proven even more surprising is Ghosts season 4’s continued focus on Isaac’s character arc. Isaac was the main focus of season 4, episode 1, “Patience,” as he attempted to escape the Puritan and then wrestled with whether to save her from “The dirt” beneath the mansion. After that, Isaac was the one who finally got rid of Patience in episode 3, “Halloween IV: The Witch.”

Isaac Reintroduced Patience To The Woodstone Mansion

Even though this did undo Isaac’s Ghosts season 4 redemption arc, Isaac was the one who tricked Patience into viewing sinful television and forced her to flee the mansion in shame and embarrassment afterward. It was also Isaac’s book that Sam sold to a publisher in episode 5, “The Primary Source,” whose main plot centered on Isaac, Sam, Jay, and Pete trying to find a way to Isaac’s claims about his life with a primary source. In contrast, none of the other ghosts of Ghosts have received more than one major storyline in season 4.

Trevor was the focus of episode 4, “The Work Retreat,” and the B-story of “The Primary Source” centered on his character. Alberta was central to episode 5, “A Star is Dead,” and Sass received a pretty substantial B-story in both that episode and “The Work Retreat,” when he and Hetty’s rumor about Pete got out of hand. However, even Sass and Hetty’s episode 4 B-story eventually led back to Isaac, when the Revolutionary War veteran confronted Pete over supposedly inventing his girlfriend Donna.

Nat Faxon Will Soon Play Isaac’s Rival Alexander Hamilton

Since Ghosts season 4 dumbed down Sam to facilitate Isaac’s biography storyline, it might seem like the show is overdue a new character focus. However, the CBS sitcom is about to make Isaac’s plot a lot more interesting. According to TVLine, The Conners star Nat Faxon has been cast as season 4’s version of Alexander Hamilton, who Isaac claims was his personal rival throughout his life. Although a lot of fans understandably expected that Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda would play the role, Faxon's casting is an exciting surprise.

Hamilton's arrival can confirm whether Isaac was even on Hamilton’s radar or if the pompous character was always just exaggerating his importance in the war. This can pay off his season 4 storyline so far, revealing the depths of his insecurity and explaining why the series has spent so long exploring his attempts to become more thoughtful, pragmatic, and empathetic. While it will be hard for Faxon to outdo Ghosts’ best guest star yet, Ghosts season 4 can still retroactively justify its close focus on Isaac with this storyline.
