Now that The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are the sitcom’s main focus, alongside the owners of their mansion home. Sam and Jay, the proprietors of the Woodstone B&B, generally star in each episode’s main plot with one of the ghosts, while the rest of the ghosts are central to the episode’s B-story. Early episodes in Ghosts season 4 centered Sass, Alberta, and Isaac, with the latter getting numerous outings devoted to his antics.

Ghosts Season 4’s Biggest Missed Guest Star Opportunity Can Secretly Still Happen
Ghosts season 4's latest casting news seemingly shut down any chance of one major star appearing on the CBS sitcom, but their cameo may still work.
However, the ing stars of the series are also central to the critical and ratings success of Ghosts. Season 4, episode 7 may have centered its B-story on Isaac and his former love interest Nigel, but “Sad Farnsby” wouldn’t have worked without the main story’s focus on the couple’s little-seen neighbors, the Farnsbys. Similarly, although season 4, episodes 8 and 9, “A Very Arondekar Christmas” primarily focused on Pete, Sam, and Jay, its B-story also gave Jay’s parents Mahesh and Champa, along with his sister Bela, a major role in the series.
Jay’s Sister Bela Deserves A Bigger Role In Ghosts Season 4
Bela Knows About The Show’s Ghosts Like Sam and Jay
Bela’s part in “A Very Arondekar Christmas” proved that Jay’s sister deserves a bigger role in Ghosts season 4 thanks to her unique position in the show’s cast. Bela has known about Sam’s ability to see ghosts ever since her first appearance in the series, season 1, episode 12, “Jay’s Sister.” Unlike Sam and Jay, Bela is a pretty rebellious free spirit, so she has more potential for adventure and mischief when interacting with the undead denizens of the mansion. Ghosts season 4’s Sam problem could be solved by giving Bela a more substantial role.
While Jay and Sam are both funny characters in their own right, they are mostly sensible and level-headed. Sam has a tendency to be somewhat uptight and Jay can be easily stressed, but neither member of the couple is particularly outrageous or zany. As such, most of the comedy in Ghosts relies on the ghosts themselves starting absurd dramas and the show’s human characters trying to curtail and contain their antics. As reliably fun as this is, it would be refreshing to see a more free-spirited human character like Bela aiding the ghosts in their antics.
Ghosts Season 4’s Christmas Special Highlights Bela’s Potential
Bela Helped Jay and Sam Cover For Pete
In the first few episodes of Ghosts season 4 alone, Sam helped Isaac source his memoirs, refused Alberta’s amoral attempts to secure her a main role in a musical, and helped Trevor meet his living colleagues by getting Jay to pose as him. Jay mostly just accommodates these schemes, whether he is standing in for Trevor’s human self or helping Sam fake Isaac’s memoir. In contrast, what makes Bela a great Ghosts guest star is her rebellious attitude and lack of stability. Unlike Sam and Jay, she isn’t worried about keeping the ghosts and everyone else happy.

Since she knows the ghosts and their personalities, Bela could assist Jay and Sam in handling the undead residents of the Woodstone B&B. However, she could also be a more turbulent force in the household. From Thor to Hetty, the ghosts are almost universally unruly and rambunctious in their own ways. Isaac is comically self-centered, Alberta is obstinate, and even Sass has a guilty love of stirring up drama for fun. The human characters of Ghosts are missing this playful, edgy side, and Bela could provide this, as evidenced by her flirting with Trevor.
How Ghosts Season 4 Can Expand Bela’s Role
Bela Could Live With Sam and Jay In The Future
Shortly after arriving in “A Very Arondekar Christmas,” Bela accused her brother and his wife of using drugs in the afternoon while hosting their in-laws, then immediately asked if she could them. Ghosts needs a human character with unpredictable energy and this exchange proves that Bela provides that quality in spades. Moreover, Ghosts season 4 already has a perfect excuse for making her a part of the show’s main cast.
Sam and Jay have both itted that they need as much help as they can get with both the restaurant and the B&B.
Bela has already stayed with Sam and Jay before, in “Jay’s Sister” and throughout the show’s two Christmas specials to date. Sam and Jay have both itted that they need as much help as they can get with both the restaurant and the B&B so, especially considering how impulsive she is, it would make perfect sense for Bela to move in and help them. This could also give the show some human drama to focus on, meaning Isaac’s Ghosts season 4 redemption wouldn’t entirely dominate the action of the series as Ghosts continues.
New episodes of Ghosts air on Thursdays at 8:30pm on CBS.
