Even though Kyle caused a lot of drama with his arrival in The ghosts of CBS’s Ghosts are the show’s true main characters, with every episode focusing on their misadventures as they spend eternity in the bounds of the Woodstone Mansion. However, their human co-stars Sam and Jay still have a pivotal role to play in the comedy series, facilitating their antics and helping them with their latest plans.
Since Jay ruining more than one Ghosts subplot by missing a plot beat that Sam didn’t relay in time. This is why Sam was so relieved when Pete returned from his travels to Canada and brought back another person who could see ghosts in season 4, episode 21, “Kyle.”
Sam & Jay Have A Proper Fight Because Of Kyle In Ghosts Season 4, Episode 21
Ben Feldman’s Friendly Stranger Drove A Wedge Between Sam and Jay
Although Ben Feldman’s character only appeared in one episode of season 4, Kyle must return to Ghosts in a future outing. His ability to see, hear, and speak to the ghosts provided Sam with a similar character to discuss her predicament with, but it also provided viewers with an idea of how someone else might handle Sam’s situation. Eventually, Kyle inadvertently caused a huge fight between Sam and Jay, but even this conflict was overdue thanks to the pair ignoring the most frequent problem they have faced for years now.

As epitomized in Stephanie’s Ghosts season 4 story, Sam’s plans can often change from minute to minute based on what the ghosts tell her. Often, Jay isn’t privy to these details, leaving the couple on different pages. Seeing Sam get along swimmingly with a new man who shared her gift (or curse) understandably upset Jay, who informed Sam of how isolated he feels from his inability to see the ghosts. Sam then explained how hard it is to relay information between the living and the dead alone.
Kyle's Existence Shakes Things Up In Ghosts (& That's Why He Needs To Return)
Kyle’s Predicament Made Sam’s Story More Interesting
Clearly, Sam and Jay have needed to have this fight for years, arguably ever since they first came to with the idea that Sam was really seeing ghosts. Kyle’s presence was a reminder of just how tenuous the central couple's peace is, so his return could highlight both Jay’s struggle and Sam’s isolation. While Sass’s romance subplot avoided catastrophe thanks to Thor’s ability to manipulate electricity, the ghost almost risked being smooshed by a ghost trap earlier in season 4 solely because no one but Sam could tell Jay to stop driving.

Ghosts Season 4 Finale's Guest Stars Hints At The Next Spirit Leaving The Show
Elias's return, alongside another recurring guest star, proves the Ghosts season 4 finale could be setting up the sitcom's next major character exit.
Kyle’s presence could make it easier for the ghosts to talk to humans but, at the same time, it could also challenge Sam and Jay to become more aware of their communication. Sam may need to slow down and do less for the ghosts so she can keep Jay in the loop, or Jay may need to set aside more time to ensure that he is present and can keep up more ably. Either way, Kyle could facilitate this thanks to sharing Sam’s gift.
How Kyle Can Return In Ghosts Season 5
Kyle Departed The Woodstone Mansion On Relatively Friendly
Although Kyle did make a misguided at Sam, he left the Woodstone Mansion on good . Minor ing stars like Chris the stripper and Kelsey the scammer have already reappeared in Ghosts season 4, so it is no stretch to assume Kyle could make a comeback in season 5. If Pete’s Ghosts love interest Donna could not only come back but end up receiving an entire subplot dedicated to her a season after her last appearance, then Ghosts season 5 can definitely find room for a character who can bring Sam and Jay closer together.
