  • Jay doesn't need to die so he can see the spirits in Ghosts season 4.
  • There are ways that Jay can communicate with the dead in Ghosts season 4, the same way Sam wasn't killed to have her paranormal capabilities.
  • Ghosts has a chance to expand its lore in season 4 with creative twists that will lead to Jay having ghostly interactions.

Killing Jay in Ghosts season 4 isn't necessary for its big twist to make sense. In the American version of the British sitcom series, Utkarsh Ambudkar portrays Jay, who lives with his wife, Rose McIver's Samantha, in a historic mansion she inherited from a relative. The CBS series has been a hit in its first three seasons, and a twist announced for Ghosts season 4 could make it even better. At San Diego Comic-Con in July 2024, Ghosts teased a twist that would change the entire series.

The lore of the Ghosts universe established in seasons 1-3 provides an abundance of exciting narratives that can take form in season 4. Jay's wife, Samantha, can see the ghosts in their house due to a near-death accident that has her knocking at death's door. Her ability to interact with the dead makes for compelling and hilarious narratives, which are sure to continue in Ghosts season 4. Moving forward, however, the possibility of expanding Jay's understanding of the spirits at Woodstone B&B would require a carefully crafted tale that wouldn't require the show to kill the character.

Jay Doesn't Need To Die For Ghosts Season 4's Confirmed Twist To Happen

Jay Is Likely Safe From Harm In Ghosts Season 4

At SDCC 2024, it was confirmed that Jay will finally be able to see the dead when the show returns. The Ghosts season 4 twist will change the series, but he doesn't need to die to pull it off. Jay could have a near-death experience that brings him close enough to the world of the dead to be able to see the spirits. Previously, he believed he might be able to see ghosts in season 2 when he was recovering from a dangerous fall, but he quickly found out that he did not share his wife's paranormal talents.

That said, it's unlikely that Jay will have to die for him to see ghosts. While it's one way for that to happen, there are other ways for Ghosts to achieve this without having to kill Sam's husband. The writers can develop new ways for him to interact with the ghosts of the CBS series that no one previously knew about. Many things still surprise the ghosts, even after hundreds of years in the afterlife. Jay's ability to see ghosts could have a drastically different cause than Samantha's.

Ghosts Could Revisit A Compelling Sasappis Storyline From Season 3

Rather than die or almost die, there are other ways Jay can communicate with the dead in Ghosts season 4. While there would be more than a few opportunities for Jay to fall off a ladder or get electrocuted and be able to see the ghosts due to a near-death experience, the comedy can come up with something more complex. A theory from CinemaBlend suggests that Jay may be able to see spirits in his dreams since Ghosts season 3 revealed that Sasappis' ghost power allows him to enter dreams, which he did once to talk to Sam's husband.

Sasappis communicates with Jay in his dreams in Ghosts season 3, episode 2, "Man of Your Dreams" on Paramount+.

Jay's ability to see ghosts in season 4 could be an extension of this exciting season 3 development. Another option is for something to happen to Jay where he can see the dead for a short time. Being able to interact with the spirits would throw off a significant dynamic for the series, however. While Ghosts could survive without the trope, Jay's inability to see the ghosts is where much of the show's humor originates, meaning the series may not permanently opt for his ghost vision. Instead, Jay could have a near-death moment wherein he could see the spirits temporarily.

Whatever happens next, Ghosts has an exciting opportunity to expand its lore in season 4 with Jay's teased ghost twist. The most riveting possibility is that the series will introduce an entirely new way to interact with the dead. The series will likely develop something clever for the plot that expands the existing lore, like when Ghosts season 3 introduced a new spirit, a poltergeist who haunted a person rather than a place. Moving forward, the writers could be as creative when crafting the lore around Jay's ghost vision because there are no set parameters for it.

Ghosts can continue to build momentum by bringing in new elements of lore without compromising others.

With the latest twist to the CBS series, Ghosts has an opportunity to flex the impressive world-building that has made the series successful. What's more enthralling than the backstories of CBS' Ghosts is the creative ways that the living and the dead can interact. The inventive writing has garnered a lot of for the series, including an elusive 100% Rotten Tomatoes score for season 2. Ghosts can continue to build momentum by bringing in new elements of lore without compromising others. Ghosts' season 4 twist could be one of the most compelling conundrums yet.
