CBS' adaptation of Ghosts has proven to be a hauntingly hilarious hit, and now the residents of Woodstone Mansion will return for season 5. Debuting in 2021 (based on the U.K. version), Ghosts follows Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) a married couple from New York City who move into a massive mansion upstate after Sam inherits it from a deceased relative. Determined to turn Woodstone into a charming B&B, a near-death experience leaves Sam with the uncanny ability to see ghosts. Charming and chuckle-worthy, Ghosts finds a lot of heart in the various specters that haunt the mansion.

Though Ghosts utilizes the same sort of familiar plots found in many sitcoms, the series is unique because the fantastical elements of the storytelling make for compelling opportunities. Each ghost who lives in Woodstone has their own fascinating backstory, and is even on their own personal growth arcs as they try to earn their way to the other side. With a lot still to learn about the ghosts, and with Sam and Jay's dreams constantly in danger, Ghosts has the opportunity to stretch on for a while. Now, CBS has picked the supernatural comedy up for more episodes.

This confirmation means that the American version of the series will outlive its predecessor (which ran for five season)

Announced alongside a slew of other renewals, the latest news confirms that Ghosts will be back for seasons 5 and 6 in the future. Even as other hit franchises like NCIS and Fire Country got single-season orders, CBS decided that Ghosts should come back for not one, but two additional outings. This confirmation means that the American version of the series will outlive its predecessor (which ran for five seasons), though Ghosts' fate beyond season 6 is still undecided.

Even though the writing was on the wall that CBS would pick up more episodes of Ghosts soon, the network made the somewhat surprising decision to order two additional seasons at once. Now, the supernatural comedy will be back on the air with a fifth and sixth season in the coming years. While details are understandably scant about Ghosts' future episodes, it's expected that season 5 will come at the end of 2025, while season 6 should come during fall 2026.

  • Ghosts season 5 will retain its previous time slot, airing Thursdays at 8:30pm EST on CBS.

Ghosts season 4 concluded in May 2025.

Ghosts Season 5 Cast Details

Sam, Jay & The Ghosts Will Return

Despite being a sitcom that takes place primarily in one location, the cast of Ghosts has a massive ensemble of guest stars and recurring characters. However, there's no telling exactly who will stick around for season 5 outside the main cast, which has been consistent since season 1. Rose McIver will certainly be back as the plucky Sam who can see the ghosts, while Utkarsh Ambudkar will return as her nerdy husband, Jay, who can't see the ghosts but is very ive. The main ghosts will also be back, including Rebecca Wisocky as Sam's great-great-great-great-aunt, Hetty, who once owned the mansion.

Furthermore, it's all but certain that Devan Chandler Long will reprise his role as the brash but sensitive Viking ghost, Thor, while Sheila Carrasco will be back as Susan "Flower" Montero, the hippie ghost. Meanwhile, Román Zaragoza will reprise his role as Lenape ghost, Sasappis, Brandon Scott Jones as the Revolutionary War soldier, Captain Isaac Higgintoot, and Danielle Pinnock as the prohibition-era singer, Alberta. Finally, Asher Grodman will be back as the pantsless former party bro, Trevor, while Richie Moriarty will return to his role as the lovable and naive Pete.

Given that season 4 ended with the reveal that Elias, played by Matt Walsh, may have gotten Jay to sign over his soul, it's likely Walsh will return to guest star in season 5 as well. So could Dean Norris as Sam's father, Sakina Jaffrey as Jay's mother, Bernard White as Jay's father, and Punam Patel as Jay's sister, since their extended family has begun playing a larger role in the series.

More Spectral Hijinks At Woodstone Mansion

It's difficult to predict exactly what will happen in Ghosts season 5 because the show typically follows the classic sitcom bottle-episode formula. Each installment features a self-contained story that usually doesn't connect from week to week. However, Ghosts has been known to throw a few twists as well, and that is expected to carry over between seasons 4 and 5. At the end of season 3, Isaac gets snatched by Puritan ghost Patience, but that storyline is quickly resolved in season 4.

Though it's tough to say exactly what will happen, it's guaranteed that Ghosts season 5 will feature Sam, Jay, and their ghostly pals dealing with the trials and tribulations of life and the afterlife as well. Several ghosts haven't revealed their powers yet, and it's certain that Sam and Jay's dream of running a successful B&B will hit more snags along the way.

Jay's restaurant on the mansion grounds is nearing its opening date, and the day-to-day operations could be a part of future seasons. In fact, Jay will likely play a much larger role in Ghosts season 5 because of his unwitting meeting with Elias, a ghost banished to hell who gets both the ghosts and the living to sign over their souls to hell. After Jay has largely been relegated to a ing role because of his disconnection from the ghosts, this will be a welcome change for the show.

Ghosts season 5 will also likely explore the relationship between Alberta and Pete more. The two got together in the season 4 finale. While relationships between other ghosts have been explored in the first few seasons of the show, theirs has not so far.

There's also the chance that new ghosts will the fun in future seasons as well as each season of Ghosts has expanded the world of the apparitions.
