Skybound Entertainment's G.I. Joe is already purporting to be the “biggest comic book launch of the decade,” and now the details for the second issue of the Energon Universe relaunch confirm the debut of a new Cobra strike force.:The Valkyries. These new antagonists will be making their debut in Skybound’s new shared universe, giving the newly-formed G.I. Joe team a threat to be reckoned with.

G.I. Joe #2 – written by Joshua Williamson, with art by Tom Reilly – will raise the stakes for the fledgling team, who formed at the end of this year’s Duke miniseries to deal with the threat of the Transformers after their arrival on Earth. Naturally, fans are eager to find out how the Joes will discover the growing Cobra terrorist organization.

What little is known abour these elite troops comes from the listing for the Cobra Valkyries action figure set on Hasbro Pulse, which describes them as choosers of the slain” who “stalk the battlefield” to usher “any enemies who cross their path straight to Valhalla.

Anticipation for the new G.I. Joe series is at a fever-pitch, so Skybound’s claims of it being “the biggest comic book launch of the decade” may prove to be accurate when G.I. Joe #1 launches in November.The creative team of Josh Williamson and Tom Reilly knocked it out of the park on Skybound's debut Duke miniseries, which inaugurated the Joe line of titles in the Energon Universe, so fans can expect the same level of quality for the new ongoing G.I. Joe.

The Energon Universe era of G.I. Joe is shaping up to be one of the most exciting iterations of the franchise yet.
