WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Destro #3
G.I. Joe is back in comics in a big way thanks to the Energon Universe, and one hero has just made their grand return in the most recent issue of Destro. The longtime franchise villain has been angling for control of the global arms market, and he may have just found a way to beat his enemies thanks to an alliance with a longtime fixture of the G.I. Joe world.
Destro #3 – written by Dan Watters, with art by Andrea Milana – opens with the title character under siege in the Scottish Highlands, fleeing from the assassin Chameleon. Destro barely survives the encounter, leaving the world at large to believe he is dead.
Instead of returning to M.A.R.S. Industries, Destro decides instead to turn himself in at the U.S. Air Force base in Scotland. Upon being taken into custody, Destro requests to meet with none other than General Flagg, who agrees to hear what the high-rolling arms merchant has to offer.

Flagg first appeared in 1982’s in the original continuity for long, Flagg left a large shadow on the franchise thereafter.
Perhaps most notably, the General was the namesake of the U.S.S. Flagg aircraft carrier. Now that fans know that Flagg is more than one Joe team in operation, so there are several interesting strands for the brand-new G.I. Joe ongoing series to follow when it launches.
With the added complication of Destro working with General Flagg, and the U.S. military, in some capacity, it should prove to be an epic conclusion, leading directly into the new G.I. Joe ongoing series.
