The Energon Universe has been a massive success, and the recent G.I. Joe relaunch continues that trend by being the best-selling single issue released by Image Comics for the month of November. Skybound’s shared Transformers / G.I. Joe universe took the comic industry by storm with the release of 2023's Void Rivals #1 by Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici, and the imprint shows no signs of stopping as it continues into its second year.

The new G.I. Joe’s success should come as no surprise for readers who have been following the Energon Universe, as each new title released within the line has been bigger than the last. G.I. Joe #1 had a year of build-up, with the miniseries Duke, Cobra Commander, Scarlett, and Destro all released over the past year to much success and acclaim. Fortunately for fans, G.I. Joe #1 more than lived up to all the hype leading up to its release, as the creative team found the perfect way to reboot the entire franchise for a whole new generation of fans.

The new series’ success is an incredible story in its own right, but there’s more good news for old-school G.I. Joe fans. Amazingly enough, Image lists G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero #311 as the 8th best-selling title for November – an astounding feat, given that it continues Larry Hama’s original run of G.I. Joe that began at Marvel in the 1980s. Hama returned to the classic series at previous publisher IDW with G.I. Joe: ARAH #156 all the way back in 2012, and Skybound picked up Hama’s run with #301 in November 2023.

Including Transformers, Duke, Cobra Commander, and More
The Energon Universe not only topped the November sales charts for single issues, but also Image Comics’ best-selling trade paperbacks and graphic novels. Transformers Vol. 2: Transport to Oblivion placed number one on that list, with the collections of the Scarlett and Destro miniseries also placing in the top five book releases of the month. For fans looking to get into the Energon Universe, G.I. Joe #1 is an excellent starting place, with the rest of Skybound’s successful imprint readily available in trade collections.
G.I. Joe #1 is available now from Skybound Entertainment.
