WARNING! Spoilers ahead for Destro #2G.I. Joe getting an all-new ongoing series in the Energon Universe, and the elite fighting force will have plenty of villains to face in the new continuity. Destro #2 adds more antagonists, as the dangerous assassin known as Chameleon enters the fray. In addition, more major threats may be lying in wait, as the end of the issue teases even more villains ing the battle in the Energon Universe.

Destro escapes to the castle of his ancestors seen in the previous issue, but he has a visitor in the remote location in the Scottish Highlands: the assassin known as Chameleon, who speaks to old G.I. Joe villain Overkill, saying she’s going to “shatter” Destro’s famous silver mask.

In addition to Chameleon, readers also learned from Destro #2 that Overkill already exists in the Energon Universe.

In previous continuities, Chameleon was actually the half-sister of Baroness. Disgusted by her sibling’s actions, Chameleon underwent surgery to resemble Baroness and ed Cobra to impersonate her half-sister, as an undercover agent for G.I. Joe. While Chameleon was never a major part of the franchise, she appears to be a pretty big character for the Energon Universe, as she appears rather prominently on the cover to November’s G.I. Joe #1. While it’s unknown whether or not the character in this continuity will bear any similarities to the old version, it would be very interesting if she was somehow related to Baroness.

Chameleon never appeared in any of the classic G.I. Joe comics; instead, the character was a major part of the acclaimed G.I. Joe: Cobra comics in the early 2010s, during which two versions of the villain were actually featured.

In addition to Chameleon, readers also learned from Destro #2 that Overkill already exists in the Energon Universe, although he’s not seen on-. There are a few versions of Overkill in the G.I. Joe franchise, with the original action figure describing him as a Cobra B.A.T. with more advanced A.I. programming that allowed him to achieve full sentience. The latter version was revised to be a half-man, half-cyborg who leads the B.A.T.s. Given that Destro is currently in control of the android troopers in the Energon Universe, it would appear this version of Overkill has no connection to the B.A.T.s.

The preview cover for G.I. Joe features Chameleon, Destro and the Crimson Twins standing side-by-side with Cobra Commander, so it would appear all of these villains will eventually come together under the banner of Cobra.

With the solicits for Destro #3 teasing an epic showdown between Destro and Chameleon, the Energon Universe is keeping fans guessing as to what will happen next. The preview cover for G.I. Joe features Chameleon, Destro and the Crimson Twins standing side-by-side with Cobra Commander, so it would appear all of these villains will eventually come together under the banner of Cobra. Whatever happens next, fans will have to keep reading Destro to learn about the Energon Universe versions of G.I. Joe villains Chameleon, Overkill and whoever may be showing up next…
