Friends are the two TV shows with a high replay value. Even though Friends concluded its run back in 2004, it still is relevant today. As for Gilmore Girls, the series got a whole new generation of fans ever since its arrival on Netflix.
Both the shows boast dedicated and proactive fandoms in the world. While Gilmore Girls and Friends are made up of entirely different premises, and plotlines, there are character counterparts that exist between them. They share common values, outlooks, and in certain cases, a common moral ground. Paris Geller for example is a go-getter like Monica Geller whereas Rachel is just as spirited, daring, and spontaneous as Lorelai Gilmore.
Kirk Gleason = Frank Buffay Jr.
Kirk Gleason was as awkward and eccentric as his Friends counterpart, Frank Buffay Jr. The adjectives intriguing and light-hearted can be used to describe both him and Frank Buffay Jr.
One of the strangest things about Kirk from Gilmore Girls was his relationship with his mother. Their family dynamic bewildered fans throughout. Similarly, Kirk's Friends' counterpart came from tough family background. His biological father abandoned him and his mother, and he was once locked out of the house by his mother when he announced his decision to marry Alice. Kirk and Frank spoke in a quirky cadence, and overall were fun additions to Stars Hallow and to Greenwich Village.
Taylor Doose = Dr. Leonard Green
Taylor Doose much like his Friends counterpart is a conspicuous person. He's the loudest, the most overbearing, and an extroverted man, and these are personality traits that Dr. Green shares.
Doose likes this business in order, as does Dr. Green. The pair are also similar in of other personality flaws such as stubbornness, and impatience. Both men have a propensity to fly into a rage and were seen frequently snapping over little things.
Sookie St. James = Phoebe Buffay
Phoebe Buffay is certainly a fitting choice for Sookie St. James from Gilmore Girls. Both of them are quirky, charismatic women who like to spread joy and good vibes. They love their professions, even when it requires them to work odd hours and with difficult people.
Sookie and Phoebe value friendship above everything else. In the pilot episode, Sookie suggests Lorelai sell her car to pay Rory's enrollment fee at Chilton. Similarly, Phoebe proved herself to be the most loyal member among the sixsome all along. She agreed to be the surrogate for her brother Frank Jr. and his wife, Alice and she even tried researching fast ways to make him rich. Phoebe covered for Rachel when the latter wasn't ready to announce her pregnancy and told people that she was pregnant instead. Sookie and Phoebe always do the right thing by their friends, and they tend to get upset if they are wronged in any way.
Lane Kim = Mike Hannigan
Rory's best friend, the rock and roll drummer, and the real hero of Gilmore Girls, Lane Kim, has found her ideal counterpart in Friends' Mike Hannigan for a whole host of reasons. For starters, both characters played instruments. Lane's ion for drumming and the truth about her band/life become the cause of her mother, Mrs. Kim's wrath. Similarly, Hannigan left his job as an attorney to pursue his dream of becoming a pianist.
Both Lane and Mike faced difficulties dealing with disapproving and highly critical mothers in their respective series. Last but certainly not least, Lane is just as spunky, witty, creative, and loving as Mike, and it makes them perfect counterparts.
Paris Geller = Monica Geller
Paris and Monica share the same last name and similar traits that make them great counterparts for each other. The two ladies from Gilmore Girls and Friends, respectively, know the importance of discipline, hard work, and dedication. The former was the most dedicated student throughout her academic life as portrayed on Gilmore Girls.
The latter showed fans that she was a high-energy student when she took a literature class with Phoebe in "The One with Ross' Sandwich." She made the class more difficult for other students and at one point convinced their teacher to give everyone a test. Both Paris and Monica are characterized by their work ethic, desire to work in high-powered positions, and a tendency to perform particularly well under pressure.
Lorelai Gilmore = Rachel Green
Gilmore Girls' Lorelai Gilmore finds her Friends counterpart in Rachel Green. Both women faced upheavals navigating their early adulthood and achieved more stability and success in their 30s.
Lorelai left her the comforts of Richard and Emily's house and raised Rory on her own. Similarly, Rachel bid goodbye to the life and comforts that marrying Barry would have guaranteed her and made it on her own in NYC. They were single mothers, wisecrackers, and witty women. And even though Lorelai and Rachel were kooks, they also knew when to spring into action and get things done. They were also spontaneous, loved a mean cuppa joe, and their jobs.
Luke Danes = Chandler Bing
Danes' sarcasm may not be funny ha-ha like Chandler's, but fans loved his dry humor and the funniest Luke quotes in Gilmore Girls. He was a hardworking, self-made man, who continued to show lifelong devotion to the woman of his dreams (Lorelai) and utmost loyalty to the rest of his family.
Though Luke isn't a 100% personality twin of Chandler's, they have many similarities. Both men are known to use irony to mock difficult situations and to convey contempt. All in all, they are selfless men, (enamored by Lorelai and Monica, respectively) and they'd give anything to see their friends happy and successful.
Emily Gilmore = Judy Geller
Not surprisingly, the Gilmore matriarch is an ideal counterpart of the Geller matriarch from Friends. Much like Judy, Emily has an eye for detail, she is organized and likes to plan things ahead of time. The two women are perfectionists in their own right.
Emily and Judy demand good manners and flawless conduct from those around them. They are known to have complicated relationships with their daughters, Lorelai and Monica which makes them integral characters in their respective series.
Richard Gilmore = Jack Geller
The Gilmore patriarch, Richard was one of the finest men in the series. Known for his courteous goodwill, grace, and aplomb, he led his family with pride.
He finds a counterpart in the Friends patriarch, Jack Geller. Like Richard, Jack was also capable of leading difficult and demanding situations with grace. He led his family with love, and he too worked in partnership with his wife. Richard and his wife, Emily shared a happy, healthy and realistic relationship just like Jack and Judy. The two men are a lot alike, and their arcs provide countless life lessons on being good fathers.
Logan Huntzberger = Pete Becker
Logan Huntzberger's entrepreneurial drive makes him Pete Becker's ideal counterpart. Though Logan inherited his riches and Pete started his business in his dad's garage, both men were equally driven and ionate about their jobs. They knew the value of privilege, and the price it took to maintain their high-powered roles.
Logan left his comfort zone to embrace the whole Huntzberger destiny once he graduated from Yale. Pete was among Friends characters who were way ahead of their time. He created MOSS 865 with determination and kept going owing to his growth mindset. Logan and Pete, both knew terrific dining places in the Gilmore Girls and the Friends universe, and they both taught fans a thing or two about pampering their loved ones.
