In Gilmore Girls, Logan Huntzberger is the suave, charming, weather potential suitor Rory meets once she is at Yale, where Logan also goes to school. Rory and Logan couldn’t be more opposite. Rory wants to work hard and study and focus on writing for the Yale Daily News. She doesn’t want any distractions.
Logan on the other hand, wants to be Rory’s ultimate distraction. He’s constantly luring her away from her responsibilities with the promise of adventure, a little danger, and that undeniable smirk he gives her every time she tries to protest one of his crazy ideas. In fact, it seems like the only thing these two actually have in common is that fact that they both fall for each other.
“You Climb Up Here With Me, It’s One Less Minute You Haven’t Lived.”
From the very beginning, Logan wants to shake things up in Rory’s world. It’s safe to say that Logan Huntzberger has a pretty constant need for an adrenaline rush. In the episode called, “You Jump, I Jump, Jack”, Rory has discovered Logan’s secret society called “The Life and Death Brigade” and Logan invites her to one of their parties. At this party, everyone is dressed up and jumping from a very tall well (using a harness, of course). Rory is scared to take the leap, but Logan convinces her to do it with him.
“I Have Thought About Asking You Out Several Times. I Just Don’t Think It’s A Good Idea. Because You’re Special.”
When Logan and Rory first meet, there is instant chemistry. It’s clear these two have a thing for one another, but it takes forever for them to finally get together. Part of the problem, is that Logan is one of the most self-aware bad boys in television history.
Logan wants Rory, and he knows he has feelings for her, but he also knows he shouldn’t be with her because he sees how great she is and fears that he could never succeed in a relationship with her, or worse, that he could really hurt her.
“I Don’t Want To Stop Seeing You.”
Before Rory and Logan actually get together, they’re trying to keep it casual. Rory realizes pretty quickly, that she is not the type of girl who can have a casual fling and she starts developing feelings for Logan. In an effort to save herself from heartache, Rory goes to Logan’s apartment to break things off, but Logan doesn’t want to break things off. Logan decides that if Rory wants him to be her boyfriend, then that’s what he’s going to do because he doesn’t want to lose her.
“We’re Leaving.”
Logan brings Rory home to meet his family, which makes both of them a little nervous, given the fact that Logan’s family is very wealthy and very opinionated.
Before dinner can even be served, Logan’s grandfather and mother start objecting to Logan and Rory’s relationship because they don’t think Rory is the right girl for Logan, who will inherit the entire Huntzberger business and the fortune that goes with it. Logan won’t subject Rory to his family’s cruelty and they leave.
“If I Saw Me Doing This, I’d Beat The Crap Out Of Myself.”
At Thanksgiving, Rory gets a phone call from Logan’s sister, Honor. Honor calls to give Rory her condolences after Logan tells his sister that he and Rory have broken up. This is all news to Rory and she’s heartbroken. In an effort to win Rory back, Logan takes some extreme measures, including waiting for her outside of her apartment and buy the coffee cart at Yale to follow Rory around all day. Rory is surprised by all of his efforts, and Logan is too, but it works and eventually Logan and Rory are back together.
“Rory, If You Come With Me, I Won’t Get On The Plane.”
Logan has just graduated from college and to celebrate, Rory throws him a London-themed party. The party is to celebrate not only Logan’s graduation, but it’s also a farewell party because Logan has to go to London for a year for his father, Mitchum Huntzberger.
Rory wants to see Logan off and offers to go with him to the airport, but he fights her on it. He doesn’t want to go to London and he doesn’t want to leave Rory and he knows that if Rory goes to the airport with him, it will just make everything harder.
“I’m Tired Of Not Being With You.”
Logan has been away working in London and New York, so he and Rory have been having a long distance relationship. In one episode of season seven, Logan comes back for a night to surprise Rory. He sets up a romantic dinner on the roof of Rory’s building and tells Rory there’s a meteor shower and she should go to the roof to see it. Rory does, but instead of shooting stars, finds her boyfriend and a three-course meal waiting for her. After dinner, while they lay talking on the roof, Logan tells Rory how much he misses her.
“I’m Here To Ask Your Permission. Your Permission To Ask Rory To Marry Me.”
Logan is definitely a bad boy and enjoys going against societal norms, but every once in a while, he enjoys tradition. Rory is about to graduate Yale and Logan has just been offered a fancy job in San Francisco.
Logan realizes he wants to spend the rest of his life with Rory, but before he proposes, he goes to Lorelei first to ask her permission. He tells her his plans, nervously, but also excited for the future. Lorelei’s response is not exactly what he was expecting and the episode ends with a bit of a cliffhanger as to whether or not Lorelei will say okay to Logan’s wish.
“I Don’t Know A Lot, But I Know That I Love. And I Want To Be With You Forever.”
Emily and Richard throw Rory a graduation party when she graduates from Yale and everyone is invited. It’s a classic Emily Gilmore event with a lot of guests, and Logan decides to stand up in front of all of those guests and propose to Rory. He’s nervous and it’s adorable. He professes his love to his girlfriend of three years and is confident she’ll say yes, but she doesn’t. Rory freezes and the only word she can say in the moment is, “wow”, then she asks to speak with Logan privately, which is never a good sign.
“You Never Really Needed Rescuing, Ace. You Know That.”
If there’s one thing Logan is good at, it’s empowering Rory. He believes in Rory more than she believes in herself and he sees that behind her books and career goals, Rory is a strong, brave, independent woman and Logan makes it his mission to shine a light on those aspects of Rory we don’t normally see. He expands how Rory sees herself and Rory goes through a lot of change and learns a lot of lessons while she’s with Huntzberger. Some of those lessons are learned the hard way, but at the end of the day, Rory is better for knowing Logan.
